Eaglewings Iron Craft has the answer to your problem. They offer elevated track systems which are modular and you can add to once you build your basic layout. These elevated track systems are totally portable also. They are offered from 1 track to 4 track systems. They are also offered in 2ft and 3ft heights. The best part is they are totally made of metal keeping maintenace down. Since these are portable, you don't have to worry about digging down into the dirt and worry about the frost line wrecking what you buried. Here is a link to a club who has purchased this modular system and put pictures on thier site, I must say I'm impressed >>> http://www.bobsgardenrailroad.com/eaglewingsRDC.html You can see the club replaced a wooden elevated track system which rotted away, even with up to date maintenance, this will happen, especially if you use cedar construction.
