Lets start a new thread about deals, unique items, tricks, techniques, etc.

What have you found or discovered lately?

Today, I saw this clear case with chrome-plated screwdrivers at Harbor Freight (a import tool company based on the west coast but stores all over and on-line at www.harborfreight.com). It is made by "On The Edge Marketing" (www.ontheedgemarketing.com). $8.

The case is 11.5" (29cm) wide by 9.5" (24cm) deep and just over 2" 5.5cm) internal.

Pull out the cut foam and you have a nice diorama case !!!

I've been looking for something like that too! I saw a barbeque set in a case like that for 19.99. Show us an update when you build your little pike in there!!

It could also be a nice carrying case for the locos and cars, just need to get the inserts the right size so they fit snug and can be seen without opening the case.

Harbor Freight also has a small case (11x7) that's reg. $12.99, on sale for $9.99. I had one at the show that had an operating layout in it. At least it operated until my Marklin 0-6-0 went missing. Robert Ray has a photo of the box/layout in his NTS photo on Z Central Station.

John, these all metal screwdrivers are heavy (and were sent to the recycle pile but that bottle opener bounced back out !! But we don't need them in America. We figured out how to make beer bottles that twist off. :)

I'll look for the larger on for a larger diorama. Don't think I want to deal with tight curves and loose loco/rolling stock.

Perhaps that beer bottle opener could be used for paint bottles with stuck on lids???

    Tax Free Weekend

This is the week for TN & many states to have a Sales Tax Free Holiday weekend. In TN, this means a 9-10% reduction on clothing, school supplies & computers up to $1500. I see many states also have a Tax Free Holiday. Details will vary by state.
Your local store can have sales to promote this event. You'd be surprised how the white glue, pens & markers, paper, etc can be used to support model railroading.
If you go to Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc they can have this year's Christmas items on display to check out.

    Jeff,

Last weekend I was at EuroWest in San Carlos, CA. They model European Trains in all scales. I'm the only Z scaler there, but I also have some HOac items to run on the club layout. Anyway, there was a modeler there with N scale that he carried in his gun case and I began to think that the gun case would also make a nice case for a moble layout. Now I need to shop around for a gun case since I gave up my 9mm when I retired from the USAF.

If anyone is looking for CSX Gundersons - I just received 4 from Brooklyn Loco Works (BLW) @ $23.85 each plus shipping. Still some in stock...

    Discontinued Micro-Trains Cars

If anyone is looking for older Full Throttle 2 Bay Hoppers - I just received 6 Reading and & 6 B&O. From Marsilius in Germany but total cost for 12 cars was about $240 shipped - just about the same as here.

    Full Throttle

I still want to build that dogbone oval in the acoustic guitar case like Märklin had in their '85 or '89 catalog. The yard or station could go in the neck :)
