Has taken some time since I did my last kitbash. As a SP fan I had always the plan to make a SP GP9, but as often: no time. So here are my first pix, I did following conversion: Additional front lights closed front with body mounted coupler (my design) MU hoses, sun shields and cut leaver from BLMA Tank from GP35 Decals 50% Joe D (even if you don't know about it ); 50% my own design Airbrushed with Floquil paint Windows, windscreen wipers and front lights still missing, because I will weather and age this piece a bit; SP locos looked most time a bit ugly, but they still keeped windows and lights clean... ;-) The signal horn got somehow lost in space, bugger!
Well done Gerd. I am no SP guy, but it sure looks a worn out like it, and you have to love all those SP lights.
Gerd, very, very nice! Makes me think I should have waited for Z-scale to come along! Terrific modeling - please keep sharing photos with us. Scott
HEY!!! Where's my royalty!!! ) Nice job, pretty soon we will have snow plows available and you can really finish her off! Cheers Joe MTL
Joe it's the best. really looking good. However, we need shells. Can we order GP-9 shells at this time. If so how murch?
What I'm wrestling with now is wether to do a new stainless front and rear handrail/pilot assembly that has holes in it for the snow plow and tabs for a body mount coupler, or do something that's injection molded and plugs in. The first I can do pretty quickly, the second takes some time an planning. Regardless, I'm working with Ben on pricing of a pack of snow plows but they will require some work on your part to put them on until I can come up with a solution. Oh, Don, I should have pricing for a shell shortly. Cheers Joe MTL
Joe, I want it as soon as possible. I think the stainless steel route is the best. Its fast and better looking.
Hi Joe, I woud think that your target market for these pilots and plows would be the same modeler that would super detail with BLMA products. And these guys would be pretty crafty with a file and drill. They'd also have to paint these new pilots/plows to match their existing locomotives' paint schemes. Again, not something that every MTL owner would want to try. So for those willing, the stainless steel options would be fine. Unless the injection molded units could be both sold as aftermarket upgrade units as well as used for factory installed pilots/plows on future MTL products; the stainless steel units sound like the way to go. Thanks, Bill Mock
Hi Joe, maybe it's possible to put a insert in the tool for the truck sides, so MTL can offer truck sides with and w/o coupler. I would do this ) Not everyone likes to do cuts to a $150 piece of equipment. Would it not be better to have a plastic clip-in front in the current frame with space for a single coupler and mouting points for the snow plows? If you you go this way, DON'T mould the MU-hoses on like AZL, too much work to remove them In regards to royalties: I just received your July news: GP9 in Guilford design, wonder where this is coming from........
Dave, look at this: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=585546 air tanks on the side, not crossways
Hi, I couldn't recall seeing a GP9 with tanks like that so I looked that loco up on Percy's site and found there were two with the modified tanks, original numbers were 3008, 3009 and later numbers were 3188, 3192 so it looks like you have a pretty unique model :>) ......dave
