Saw 8818 leading a stack train Sunday thru Canmore, sparkily new paint. Had to be on its first run. Was scuba diving so no pics though.
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=604883 Here's the highest number I could find. These units really look good.
Not true Triplex. Any time you go to Lethbridge the yard has more up power than CP. That is if you count GEFX as neutral because both roads rent them. I always see 6 or more UP units at the yard. They come up that far and get turned around back to Spokane. We do however see very little in Calgary as most do go back south after Lethbridge.
Note the modified grill arrangement under the radiator. The three grill setup used on all prior GEVOs (except the ES44AC demos) has been replaced with a single grill. CP s testing a different radiator circulation setup on the last fifteen units of this order (8825-8839). If it works, all future CP GEVOs will have this modification.
That's pretty neat about the grills. I didn't even notice that when I was going through pics looking at the units. Will have to watch and see if that starts turning up on other RR's orders too.
Yes it will. If you look closely, you can also see the shutters above the radiator grills on top of the unit that is also a part of this new 'cold weather' radiator set-up. One feature that has showed up on another roads GEVOs (BNSFs') is that raised hatch above the intercooler fans. Unknown what it is for though.
