    Hello TB Members

GLUE - What are you using...... I finally bought some buildings to put together to occupy my time. I am using "Testors" cement glue. I am getting the "glue strings" when I pull away from what I am gluing and it is getting on my parts. I would like to know you guys and gals are using. And how are you applying the glue .. tooth pick, straight pen or ????. It has been 30 years since I have built a model. Just need to get caught up on what glues most are using these days.

    Thanks Don

I use Testors glue in the black squeeze bottle. I use one drop and let it run down the joint. Not strings attached. I tried Tenax 7R, but I found that it evaporates too fast for me.

I use plain old lacquer thinner.Brush a little on the joining surface, get it tacked together, then put a little more on inside the joint,it's together forever.

What has slowly become my main use product is Ambroid ProWeld a very fast drying capillary action glue that will actually work through paint. Plastruct Plastic Weld and Plastruct Bondene are next. All three are plastic solvents. The Plastruct Bondene has more capillary action than the Plastruct Weld and I also used it to remove slight scratches by getting a coat on the area and then applying another coat actually brushing in the melted plastic to the rough spot. Has to be done quick and it is an acquired talent not for the faint of heart. Gap filling ACC for rough edges or disimilar material like plastic to metal and to fill in small gaps. And last Micro Kristal Klear for setting in window glazing and also to create window glazing. It also can be used to mount paper signs created on the printer and any side excess dries clear. My last project the NUMA research ship the NUMA decals for both seaplanes and ship were done on an inkjet printer and attached with the Kristal Klear can also be used as a general glue and I have used it to fill in very narrow gaps to be painted over. Note that the Kristal Klear and dullcoat do not agree with each other and when used as window glazing should be the last step done.

I've pretty much moved over to ProWeld as well.

I hadn't thought about Kristal Klear as a glue, thanks for that tip!

I use Testers plastic cement..actually I now refill it with MEK
I like using the micro brushes for applying it. I find too much glue is not good
and this way you can regulate how much you put on with different size brushes.
I drilled a hole in an extra lid for dipping the brush thru.
I found from experience that this helps cut down on evaporation and most of all
when you tip the bottle over while working you don't glue everything on the bench together!

Another vote for Ambroid ProWeld. I've tried Testors, Tenax, Plastruct and Faller, but prefer the Ambroid product.

For a glue applicator I use sewing needles with the back of the 'eye' cut off with a Dremel tool so that you are left with a "Y" type shape. Stick the pointy end into a dowel and you have one precision glue applicator. Best part is that the sewing needles come in different sizes so you can have different size applicators.

Would that be the fictional NUMA vessel ? Love Clive's books, always lots of action. ....Mike
