Hope you guys don't mind another gal joining in on the fun---seems like a great place here to learn things and share information! I was a Fine Arts major in school, but never really did much with my training. Years went by and I finally met my boyfriend Bob, whose basement consists of a huge HO layout (it's a work in progress) depicting some of the industrial area of Chicago in the late 50's, early 60's. After traveling with him to many of the train museums in the mid west and attending numerous model train shows, I finally decided I was going to build my own core door size N scale layout.

My layout will consist of the outskirts of a small mid western city, transitioning into farmland, era 1955 to 1960. I have the train already, the Santa Fe Super Chief, as well as many building kits, details and scenery materials. Haven't actually started the layout yet-which is good, as I've changed my mind quite a few times as to how I want to go about it. I'm already thinking of expanding it!

Meanwhile, I've done some n scale dioramas, testing out methods and materials. I've got two dioramas to finish and then it's on to the layout!

Welcome to our humble abode! Dioramas are a great way to try out ideas - maybe also think about a modular/sectional setup, which could easily allow you to try many different ideas and provide leeway to rearrange.

Welcome to Trainboard. I am originally from Wisconsin. In fact I was in Ripon a few weeks ago at a funeral for my uncle. Was kind of strange to be there in early February and see very little snow on the ground.

Deb, welcome aboard! Sounds like you are off to a good start. You might want to look at T-Trak modules too. They are small table top modules that alone are very much like a diorama but connected with others, allows for operation.

Hi Deb, welcome to the TrainBoard. Clearly creating layouts, be they modules, hollow core doors, or empires, is an art form. Looking forward to seeing what you have in mind.
