Hey, I've wanted to have a layout since I was about 8. The TT stuff I got back in the 80s never really worked and I had no clue how soldering worked. 30 years later I still have no idea how soldering works but fortunatelly I found a way to avoid it I'm going with Kato N scale unitrack for its outstanding reliability, very simple turnouts and its RhB stock. I'm going DC for nostalgic reasons and so I have the room to grow to DCC later. The layout is a 3x1m Swiss RhB Albula line. The crazy spiral tunels and bridges between Bergun and Preda ara very much what my plans looked like when I was 8 and I was later shocked that there actually was a railway as crazy as that. It's simply lots of very interesting track in a small space that happens to be gorgeous. The layout has 3 single continous lines. Filisur (center) - Bergun (skiped) - Preda (top right), Filisur-Landwasser (left) - Chur (top left behind the hill) and a large express oval Chur-Chur with staging and a reversing loop. With 60m of track I maybe bit more than I could chew for my first layout but I'd rather fail this than go for something simper ... so wish me luck and I'll keep you posted.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Just do not rush and your results should be fine. I will look forward to following this project!
Man that looks cool. Can't wait to see it built? Be sure and start a thread on the progress. And welcome!
I'm still weeks away from building it. Which section would be best to post it in? Most components have arrived but I'm still running a ton of tests before I start work on the benchwork. The biggest problem right now is dealing with the lighting of the passenger cars bridging power between adjecent blocks, which doesn't quite wor with deceleration modules and such. This is the town station section test:
I would think the N Scale area since your are modeling in that scale, and just name the thread whatever your layout is called? If you have a name for it? It's really up to you. You could even post your test pictures and videos in it. Is this NOT part of the benchwork? Sure looks like a large area? I would also suggest adding a signature and what scale you model? See mine and others signatures!
Thx. The area is 3x10 ft. What you see in the photo is just a temporary board I use for testing purposes. The layout is going to ve VERY vertial so I won't have the luxury of just using a large flat board. I've been posting some of the testing videos here.
