Hi, My name is Ted, I've been into model trains most of my life, I'm retired but not yet 60. I got into model railroading as an adult around 2006-2007. My kids, especially my daughter, showed interest after visiting a couple of train museums. I mostly settled on G scale after I was set to start in N, because you can build a lot in N in a small space. Why did I change before I started? Two reasons, we went to the PA Train Museum in Strasburg and my kids loved the G Layout, my daughter said you could really "use" those trains as in they opened and were big and you could put whatever you wanted in and on them. Then right after, that, just before Christmas I found a starter set dirt cheap. I was also a big eBay user and found I could G trains quite reasonable online, and they last forever as does the track. That was the start, within 6 months I was addicted. I do G scale indoors, and had a not-so-large layout in my basement only 12 x 8 feet with 2 loops of track before we moved, it only existed about 1.5 years but I learned a lot. I also during that time started buying up HO things cheap, and some limited O scale and N scale. I moved, and lived overseas for 7 years and took some trains with me, and bought tons more. I would setup lots of temp layouts up to 16x8.5 feet. Returned in 2015 and still have temp layouts but built a 25x11 ft modular G layout. I also have tons more O scale, and an N scale layout about the size of a door I purchased. I even have some Z scale I plan at some time to use as scenery when I build my new G indoor layout. I'm currently working on building both an indoor G layout and an O layout for my outbuilding or my garage, just been busy. I have about 1/3 DCC trains, the rest analog DC (or AC for O). I build custom circuits and I'm my strength is wiring and train control. I'm currently working on building a DCC++ system with an Arduino and Raspberry PI, hence why I joined this board as there is a good forum on here for DCC++. I read off/on about 4 other forums too. Ted
