Nice Big hooks Paul, What kind of help do you need with the rigging? Like which winch in the hoist house goes to which function on the boom? I used different thread than was supplied. There aren't enough cable sheaves to route the cables per prototype on the boom lift blocks or the hook purchases. I ran into a guy here in Junction that was on the wreck crew many years ago that had much good advise and great stories. I made a couple of the with many modifications, here are links to a couple of the builds, The rigging of these things were by far the most difficult parts of the build. I found it a big help to use some thin ACC on the tip to thread thru the cable sheaves, also made a .015 brass hook to help grab those little cables and try to keep them all going in the right direction. http://www.trainboard.com/highball/...o-250-ton-crane-and-tender-in-ho-scale.78792/ http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/call-the-hook.3983/ Now your making me want to build the Rio Grande's "Sampson" 028 Like I need another project.
Just so you all know I don't just do rust buckets!!! The P&W is done with water-soluble oils and powders. The UTLX is done with acrylics. I added strips to both. Thanks for looking!
Put together a pair of Walthers buildings I picked up at the train show this weekend. Still need to paint and weather.
My friend made me the 6mm numbers for the front of my D&RGW VO 660. I don't know if other railroads did this, but it let them see the number a bit easier...
First time putting together a building kit, and first time painting one too. Learned a lot for the next go around.
I had a look at all the projects on my workbench. I am currently working on: Burlington Northern C415 CRRC SD35 4x Hi hood C628's 2x Burlington Northern caboose Burlington Northern NW5 CRRC C630 Burlington Northern RS11 Burlington Northern C425 Burlington Northern RS3 2 boxcars 1 LPG tank 1 Bulkhead Flat car I really need to crack on and finish some of these! Matt, That sounds about normal for most of us. I had some initial problems with the BLI SW 1500 stalling on one or two of my turnouts, so I did some strong cleaning of the track on the suspect areas with mixed results. The frustrating part was my Bachmann S4 with the same wheelbase would cross them without a flicker. I Did some reading around and found others had similiar problems with the locomotive. The best advice was to clean the contacts, wheels and re-lube with a conductive oil. So I broke down and ordered some. It came in yesterday and last night I cleaned and lubed the BLI switcher. Low and behold it ran every turnout on the layout without a hiccup. I am now a believer in that stuff. The only problem is the stuff is expensive, almost 20 bucks for a small bottle!
Did some more work on my New Haven C-425! The top picture is the same one I posted a couple of weeks ago, and it was pointed out to me that the exhaust stack was for the dynamic braking and not for the prime mover as I assumed (and you know what that means). So I removed that stack and completed the lift rings, (second picture) now for some cab detailing and then off to the paint shop. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Red Arrow points to the exhaust, it is opposite to EMD which confused me also, modeling is always a learning experience. Rick Jesionowski
Fantastic work Matt, look forward to more progress reports, that's a hefty workload you have on your plate. M
