I need a bunch of trees and WS just doesn't do it for me. I have used Supertrees in the past and liked the result, but looking for something different.

Have been looking at the JJT Premium Deciduous & Sycamore Kits, and was curious as to the quality of the components and the final results.

    Thanks
    Jim

I like the Sycamores very much. I've used all there deciduous trees and I'm happy with them all. The Sycamores seemed fill the bill for the modeling I'm doing. Only drawback is price. Jim

these trees have the same problem most model trees have - they are simply too short. the website says the N scale trees are 2" to 3" tall - that's only 26.5 to 40 scale feet. sure there are trees that high, but when is the last time you saw a forest of trees that were barely taller than the train?

i took this photo along the NS H line (nee N&W) and it shows that a 40 foot tree is tiny. notice that the lead locomotive is an SD-60 and it is 71 feet long. on end, it still isn't as tall as some of the trees in this scene and the railroad is on a fill!

here is a wire tree on my old layout from 5 years ago, notice how much taller than the boxcars it is.

Another brand of tree I have found that I like is Grand Central Gems. Here are some of their oak trees, in front of the train. The fall colors and the lighter green.

I've gone to a mix of N and HO scale trees, and selecting by height for what I want where, rather than by "named scale", specifically for the issue of height variety. Up in my mountain area, I have 6 to 8 inch tall trees, along with shorter ones.

As you can see, the trees in the background are at least twice the size of the trains in the yard.

    Thanks guys -

Rick, thanks for the heads up on Grand Central Gems trees - I forgot that I already purchased a few of them - I really like them.

I was needing about 30 trees - which is why the JJT trees look favorable - Also, I was looking at the HO sized trees (3 to 4") . I already have all of the 2-3" trees I could ever need :)

    Thanks for the input guys.

Why not the JTT pro kits? IIRC the premium ones have cast armatures. Mentioned since you didn't like the WS ones. You can use the JTTs for the front of the forest and copy them with your own wire armatures to fill in.

I agree, forget about the named scale.

Well I want to use I want to use WS tree kits with puffballs, and use Jim Reising's Forest In A Flash methode for trees, though I have thought about going with Supertrees, just not on my first layout though.

my method of forestation will be to have a bench affair - tall nice looking trees in the fore with a step up painted flat black and covered with handmade smaller trees to give the illusion of height yet still retain the complexity of limbs. i'm looking to have the trees tower above the trains.
