Seasons greatings to all from a very new n scale modeler. I've been building a larger version of Kato's n scale Amherst 2005 layout with unitrack for my 2 young girls for Christmas and it has come together perfectly. Now, its the night before the night before christmas and I received the AT & SF El Capitan 10 car set and interior light kit (11-210) just this morning from a very stressed and tired UPS guy. The directions with the lights are not very clear and I cannot figure out how they work with the two level "superliner" cars. Has anyone installed these LED lights into these cars? Ive searched for step by step directions with no luck. Any links or advice would help. Thank you and happy hollidays! Kurt
I've installed these in a string of Superliners and I agree the instructions included with the kit is poorly written. Try using these instructions. N Scale Amtrak Superliners - KATO USA : Precision Railroad Models Merry Christmas
Kato LED Lighting Kits. Kurt, The Kato Lighting Kits are designed to fit all Kato Passenger cars. I installed lights into the Kato Amtrak Superliners, PRR Broadway Limited Passenger Cars and even a German Hobbytrains SVT 137 Railcar that was made by Kato for the European market. My only recommendation is opt to install the incandescent filters over the LED. The naked LED would be too bright and look very unnatural. The instructions that come with the kit are in Japanese, but if you look closely... there are some details that appear in English. If you really study the instructions you can figure it out, as I did. If you need additional help... contact me via email. Bill
"My only recommendation is opt to install the incandescent filters over the LED." What exactly would be an incandescent filter? Kato lighting boards is what I want to use on my MT heavyweights and for the steam era this would be very important.
Incandescent Filter Jerry, The Kato LED Lighting kits include an Amber Filter that you snap over the LED. It simulates a warmer Incandescant Lighting effect. I am not too sure if the Kato Lighting kits will work on the MT Heavyweights. I use the Kato Lighting kits only on Kato Coaches. I recently installed the Rapido Easy Peasy Lighting kits in my Con-Cor Coaches. The really cool thing about them is that they run on batteries rather than track power... and they are turned on with a Magnet. These kits are designed to be fitted in OEM Passenger Cars. The Kits run about $8.00 each and they cast a much more natural light. Try one to see if it works for you, I really like them. Bill
