Anyone has a scan of this Steamer? I know I probably could find it in a cyclopedia book, but I don't want to purchase a 200$ book, just for one drawing. I'm just looking for this model in particuliar. a Berkshire 2-8-4. Thanks anyone. Ben
What specific Berkshire do you have in mind? There were probably at least a dozen different designs used by various railroads. For at least some, plans have appeared in Model Railroader or similar publiscations. In the case of MR, you can purchase copies for the article or plans for a very nominal sum. :cat:
ok, more specifically, I'm trying to find a: "Pere Marquette Railroad" Berkshire engine, 2-8-4. The locomotive number, 1225 I'll give a try on MR if I can find the article. Update! Nope I went To the MR site and search for an article on the Berkshire engine, 2-8-4 drawing, and I got only photo's. Does anyone that has the cyclopedia of that area has this drawing in it? Thanks Ben
Let's see if this works Nope. Ok, http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/schradersrailroad_1920_22071324 Try going there. It's a copy of the late, great Bill Berkompas' drawing of an NKP Berk, virtually identical to PM. If you can find a Shrader's Railroad catalog, Bill also did the PM 1225 both in PM and "Polar Express" livery.
I don't have a front end drawing, but here is a photo taken the day I got to run her, the PM 1225, at Owosso, in the Engineer for an Hour program.
Right on the target! Thanks Charlie. http://www.historicrail.com Polar Express Engine No. 1225 Technical Drawing Unsigned/Un-numbered William Berkompas. Produced in cooperation with Warner Brothers Entertainment - creators of the hit movie The Polar Express - this intricate technical drawing captures the muscular details of 2-8-4 Berkshire No. 1225, the real locomotive used to create the engine that pulled The Polar Express in the movie. #0R77863 Price: $14.95
Find a copy of the NMRA's magazine, SCALE RAILS for December 2006. It's the copy with a picture of #1225 ON THE COVER!!!! SEVEN images of the lady inside, and erecting drawings. By the way I was at the '91 NHRS convention in Huntington. What a show! Now if we can just get the D*** insurance companies, and lawsuit happy lawyers/people to co-operate, maybe we can get a lot more STEAM TRIPS behind these beautiful steamers!!!
I should tell you and the group, that as a youth I had the distinct pleasure of seeing those 2-8-4s in operation on the Nickel Plate. They were everything Lima said they would be. They could really move the freight and waste no time about it. Gutsy, haulin' machines! CT
