I am scratchbuilding with micro spikes, and used a magnet to pick up loose ones. My inserting pliers has become magnetic, and whenever i try to pick one up I get a couple. I know you can hit a bar with a hammer to magnetize it, how do you demagnitize a small pliers? DSC00300.JPG

Search it on Google. It's not a simple process, unless you have a prebuilt demag unit.

It basically involves superheating the tool, which is really not a good option.

I have an old style one of those, and could not get it to fully demag my tweezers. Maybe I just need to upgrade.

Just bang the pliers on a vise or other non-yielding surface. You may have to do this a number of times. Another way is to take a bar magnet, then figure out which end repels your pliers, then move this end of the bar magnet towards the pliers, then slide away at 90 degrees. Repeat until you have demagnetized the pliers. A third way is to buy a cheap degaussing coil or degaussing wand- check ebay, less than $20. This will work on all mild steel tools.
