Yikes, what a truckload! The time I hit the Moffat Route, and skid off the road at Rollinsville, the road was so icy, I needed 4wd just to get up some of the hairpins. The road is very curvy, and VERY steep just east of Pinecliffe, CO. I like Mullan's eastern personality--is the west side more wooded? More rugged, or gentler?
Yeah I've been on the road over to Pinecliffe. Nasty. Mullan is more gentle on the West side. More open and straighter. Most of the grunt is definately on the east side. Neat scenery though. Fun to chase a train down to Elliston or Avon to watch the helpers cut out and maybe tie on to an Eastbound. If you haven't got it yet see if you can find the MRL Railfan Guide by Robert Del Grosso. Great little book to take along. Gives you all the dope on the MRL's hotspots. grant
You two make all this sound really cool. Wish I lived where it wasn't flatland. Have fun and take lots of pictures for us all.
