This is what scheme and railroad would be good for this engine. Steve Church Milwaukee Road Iowa Division
Seeing a request for the Milwaukee Road brought up a question that Joe maybe able to answer. MTL offered the GP9 in the Milwaukee road name, but the GP 35 was not (is that correct). Was it due to a lack of demand that this happened? And to stay on topic, will this roadname be a consideration for the SD40-2?
Here's a photo of an engine to consider in the future and a better photo of the SD40-2 Milwaukee Road, the MP15AC photo is Milwaukee Road also, maybe they will consider it for a future release. Steve Church Milwaukee Road Iowa Division
It should be wise, but in the prototype has there been MILW SD40-2 with the standard fuel tank (ie long)? Dom
The fuel tank on all Milwaukee Road SD40-2's was 3200 Gallons instead of the standard 4000 gallon fuel tank that most railroads had. Steve Church Milwaukee Road Iowa Division
Right, we never did the GP35 in Milwaukee and I suspect we will correct that at some point. There's no method to our maddness to be honest when it comes to picking a scheme. There's not enough information on the Z market that tells us what will sell and what won't. There are the obvious choices, SP, UP, ATSF, CSX, BN etc...Milwaukee did pretty well to be honest so I don't see why we wouldn't do it in the 35 and 40-2. Cheers Joe
3200g tank was the standard tank. The 4000g tank was an option. Just a heads up for your next three thousand posts requesting a MILW SD40-2 and MP15AC in every known scale...
Thanks,Robbman for the correction,I model in HO Scale and I am just trying to get Milwaukee Road products out for all the scales. The progress shots of the SD40-2 look great, they will sell well. Steve Church Milwaukee Road Iowa Division
Hey Joe By this rational, can we expcet to see a MTL GP9 in UP any time soon... I realy would like a pair of them ,and your running mechenism is great!!! Also would there be any thought at MTL of putting on D&RGW GP35's to go with the Geep 9's.... Again i would quickly but a pair to run with the GP9's, and the Grande stabled a nice string of GP35's.. Hoping for more!!!!:tb-cool: Tony B.. Wasatch Z Club
This is greatly appreciated! When I was modeling MILW in N-scale, I had to build AND paint everything!! Even the Kato SD40-2's I bought, I had to cut down the fuel tanks. Paint it orange and black, and I'll buy it!!
That's my point, even though I model in HO Scale,I want to see products available in all the scales for modelers of not only Milwaukee Road but other railroads.Look how long it has taken N Scale to get an MP15AC on the market and there still isn't one,SD40-2's only the Kato mid production version is available.I applaud Micro Trains fro doing this very fine locomotive and hope that you Z scalers will one day have an MP15AC in your scale to go with these fine locomotives.great job on the SD40-2 Joe. I fond a great overhead shot of the SD40. Its going to be very useful for detailing the MTL engine. http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=84323
Speaking of overhead shots for reference, I found I had this one showing what needs to be done for a unit w/o the DB unit, which are what most of the SOO SD-40-2s were initially. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9826234@N02/2381593702/
Paul, that is a nice shot. I have never seen a overhead shot of engine without DB. What I would like to see is those winnebago airconditioner in z scale. I like to keep my crew in comfort. BLMA makes one in n scale. Maybe we can combince him to make one in z.
Hi Guys, Quick update. We have all the plastic done now and I've been test assemblying them. The snow plow is very cool and I am going to talk to Ben next week and see if we can package them seperatly for retro fitting. You will have to convert the 9 and the 35 to a body mount to use it unless you are clever enough to figure out how to get it on a truck! I'll get some test shots posted later today. Cheers Joe MTL
Joe, sounds good and cant wait for the pictures. I have two YN3 engines, and waiting for the YN3 SD40. Life is good this days.
Sorry for all the darkness, I'll get on all together and primed. But you can see the snowplow here. We have included one on each end. The 905 coupler will plug in the pilot so you don't have to use any screws to attach it. Very cool stuff. Cheers Joe MTL
