From HO to On30 After almost 35 years of HO modeling I'm switching to On30. I built my current HO point to point backwoods branch line with widely placed ties so I'm going to use that "as is" until a later time. I'm looking forward to modeling in O scale because of the heft of the equipment and scratchbuilding wii be easier on my eyes. I just received my first loco tonight. It's the Bachmann 14ton Stearns Heisler DCC. I'll be adding the Soundtraxx sound module.
Hmmm. I never followed up in my last post. I did get a response. Got the necessary wheel sets. Now I am waiting for my custom decal order. Hoping by the weekend....
Nothing wrong with doing this. On30 ME track looks great, but is not cheap. If it bothers at all, just use grass, ballast and debris to semi-hide some ties.
Art- Not in hand as yet, so I cannot comment on the quality. I had some positive input on this source, from reliable (HO, On30) modelers. It is ****************. http://
I model mostly N SCALE. But at the local hobby shop I spotted a HOn3 2-8-0, just had to give it a new home. Will see what it brings))))
Boulder Valley Models I bought a 3 pack of BVM's shorty log bunks and I just finished one tonight. The other two are finished except for the trucks. Adding the hanger chains for the trucks is a tedious task but worth the effort. The resin kits are fun to build and the instructions are among the best. I still need to weather the chains and add some final touches. I highly recommend these kits.
Thanks guys. After I finish these I'll start my BVM Shay kit. It converts the Bachmann H0 3 truck Shay into a small On30 2 truck shay. I'll post a pick when it's finished. It's a clever conversion.
I've seen guys write about doing that Shay conversion. They're much happier with it than with the actual Bachmann On30 Shay itself. I'd sure enjoy seeing your results!
Here is my contribution to this forum. It is a small boat repair based on an article in a past issue of Modelers' Annual. Mine is HO scale and is the result of several modeling methods new to me. I called it Lucas Marine after my youngest son. It has a removable roof and complete interior. It has been added to since the photos were taken but you get the general idea.
