This is my wild query of the year...

An internet challenged friend at work is looking for a picture of Milwaukee 0-6-0 # 1452. His dad retired from the Milw on that engine, it was apparently a big deal at the time and he knows he's seen a picture. But now he can't find it.

Yes, we've checked the Milwaukee Road Historical organization (he is a member) with no luck.

Any help or leads appreciated, and thanks for looking.

    Dear Jim,

In Volume 2 The City of Milwaukee, from Morning Star books (ISBN 1-878887-62-9), there are three 0-6-0 images. On page 11 there are 3/4 front shots of 1479 and X981. The X series were 0-6-0 engines that lost their tender in favor of a saddle water tank. Page 12 has a nice engineer side shot of 1442. Unfortunately, I have not seen a shot of 1452.

As I am converting a Mantua 0-6-0 into a Milwaukee Goat, I have been researching 0-6-0 images for a few years. The only other source I know of is eBay, and trying to bid for one of the old photos, when they appear, is a very competitive process. Most post card or 3x5 B+W images of these engines sell for at least $15.00, with many I have tried to get selling for well over $25.00!!!

Best of luck in trying to find one. It probably does exist, but it will take extreme measures to find one. Have you thought of placing a WANTED ad in Model Railroder, Trains or other large circulation foamer mag? That may be your best bet.

    Good luck,
    Mark Williams

    Mark,

Thanks for the info. That's a lot better than what I had. I'll pass the word to my friend. I figured SOMEONE here would have a lead, no matter how small. Much appreciated!

    Jim-

By chance have you checked with Ted Schnepf? He can be reached through his Rails Unlimited site:

    http://users.foxvalley.net/~railsunl/

He has a lot of Milw photos. If he doesn't have one, maybe he can suggest a source?

Thanks for the lead, Boxcab. We'll check it out. I knew there'd be someone (or several someones) who could help on Trainboard!

    Jim-

Hope that lead gets you there. I'm curious. So please let me know how you come out.

Apparently my friend spent an entire afternoon with Mr. Schnepf and found several 0-6-0 shots including one of 1452 - but not THE one he wanted.

I asked him again where he saw it, and he recalled it being in a newspaper - when he said this, the light came on, and I informed him that newspapers have places they call "morgues" and "libraries" and that it was very likely they would have the picture, perhaps even the negative. Anyway, this got him excited, I could see the gleam in his eye!

Again, Boxcab, thanks for the lead. Heck, if he manages to find the picture, I'll scan it and post it!
