My wife and I live in West Central TX and I model this area in HO scale. The FW&D, the Orient Line and the QA&P were all in this area at one time. The layout's era is pretty loose--sort of late steam / early diesel. A few friends on the Frisco forum are on this site, as well, so I decided to join. From some of the photos I've seen there are quite a few great modelers here and it will be fun to learn from you. My maternal grandfather was a career lineman for the QA&P. My mom grew up in Quanah and we live about 80 miles south of Quanah. Paul Moore (skyraider on the forum)
No Skyraiders--Bonanzas and Mooneys, mostly. My color vision is terrible and the Military doesn't allow you to be the member of a flight crew if you have defective color vision. The A-1 is my favorite airplane, thus the name. But it's good to hear from someone who knows what a Skyraider is!!! A good friend flew Skyraiders in the Navy for two tours during Vietnam. Another friend flew A-1's for the Marine Corps between Korea and Vietnam. From your Avatar you must like the New York Central. The NYC had one of the finest looking Mikados anywhere. the H10 had tons of stuff hanging on and around the boiler. US Hobbies made a super nice model of it in O scale (think it was US Hobbies). Have a great weekend, Paul Moore
mostly talked back to my Chief and slept off the night before in my shop was Aegis Fire Control back in late 90s/early 2000s
One of my favorite aircraft as well. When my family lived on Guam in the mid 1960s, they would fly right over the house when landing at Naval Air Station there. When a carrier would be heading to or from Viet Nam and put into Apra Harbor-Naval Station on Guam, many times their planes would do touch and goes at NAS. Our house in Agaña was right under the approach.
