Hi folks, Here is a scan of the first Z Passenger truck for our new lightweights. Rolls like a champ. Our tool makers even got the printing on the journals. Cheers Joe MTL
Hi Joe, nice details. Looks like truck mounted coupler for the lightweights? Really necessary? In my opinion passenger cars have no need to run industrial track radius....
Hi Gerd, There will be mounting pads you can afix 905's to, but we have to make sure these work on at least 195mm radius, hence the truck mounting. Cheers Joe
I'd think a long passenger car would need a truck mounted coupler way before a short freight car. I do body mount newer freight cars as needed, but my Hallmark heavyweights are truck mounted and go around the 195 curves.
Yep, truck mounts on short radius for sure. Even the 220 would be marginal. The main problem is most everyone uses sectional track and thus no transition track into/out-of the curve. If there were a transition track, then it's not so bad. Symetrical cross overs are the killer, especial Märklin style. #8s wouldn't be too bad. That's why I always try and male asymetrical crossovers to they only curve one way. .
Great work Joe. Little by little you are chipping away the idea that Z scale doesn't have a lot to offer. You give the Z scale fraternity an inch and they complain that you didn't provide a yard. Those of us who waited almost 30 years for advances in Z scale think that you are producing some amazing items. Congratulations to MTL also for allowing you to remain the pain in the a** for so long until your proding finaly gave them reason for having you around. Just wishing that you will have samples of the passenger cars at the NTS. Bill El Toro, CA
Thanks Bill ) Actually I may have some or most of the plastic by then....keep you toes crossed. Cheers Joe
Hi Joe, very good decission to have pad for body mounted coupler, having both alternatives is really satisfying sectional track fans as "flex trackies" That's the way to go!
Hi Larry, that's the housing for the coupler, like on all other MTL trucks incl. coupler, just a bit more exposed.....
