Just wanted to say hi ,I am just getting started in this hobby . I had purchased a Bachmann Ho Smokey mountain set before Christmas to go with wife's Christmas village. I have since caught the bug and planning a layout winter scene , space is limited would like a 4x8 but might have to 4x6 or 5 going to pick up some plywood and pink foam today .With the cold weather headed in this weekend it will be a good time to plan and start a layout. Thanks in advance for the help i know this forum will provide. Bruce Meridianville , AL
Welcome to TrainBoard!!!!!!! Look forward to seeing images of the layout and maybe start a TrainBlog here of the design and construction too. You can upload images of your design and construction here too using our RailImages and/or Album options that you have FREE access to now as a member.
Hi Bruce, Welcome to TrainBoard!!! You will find it is enjoyable here among friends. Almost all of us own Railroad empires of every type and discription, same as you now. This is the greatest collection of Moguls, Titons, Giants, and Grand Pooba's in America.
Bruce, Welcome to Trainboard, but more importantly welcome to the hobby. Whatever you do just remember it's all for fun.
Welcome aboard the Trainboard Bruce, you've picked a great place to feed that thirst for the hobby. Enjoy
Welcome to MRR. You're gonna have a lot of fun. Lots of things to learn. Lots of knowledgeable folks around here.
Welcome aboard, Bruce! You may have more space than you think. See HO 4X8 Alternatives Think in terms of total space taken by the layout and aisles, and even the space needed for a 4x6 (at least 8x8) can fit a larger layout.
Welcome! Please take your time thinking this through. Effort and research up front yield tons of dividends later in terms of both utility and enjoyment. It does wonders for the pocket-book, too!
Welcome Aboard Bruce. Trainboard is a great place to ask questions and get advice. As the post from Coverton says research saves a lot of frustration. Have fun in the great hobby of Model Trains If there is a club in your area most are a great place to learn.
Welcome aboard. Let's see Orientation takes place....naw, we don't do that here. Feel free to use the search mechanism to find topics of interest. Ask any questions you might have and be prepared to have some fun. You are going to like it here I guarantee it.
My son and I are new to MRR, I recetly purchased two Proto 2000's. One is a Burlington E8/9 and the other is a C&O BL2. We are going to run DCC and I would like to know if we can install decoders with sound in these. I can't find any info on these models..Any help would be greatly appreciated...
While I am new to relatively new to railroading as well, I did something that this guy at a shop suggested, if you have limited space. Build up not out. I have a 4x6 and I have a 4x4 on top. I set it up so that I have a train that goes in an expesed tunnell on the bottom and on top, I have a simple loop so that you have 2 seprerate trains which my kids love to watch.
Sounds like you have solved all problems. Yes there is room to have sound and DCC in the shells, if they are H0.
Welcome Bruce, Caught the bug in a very similar manner. Wife's Christmas Village met my Mother's Christmas Village and trains (Only in O). 2 scales later, here I am. It's a great hobby, enjoy. Ask alot of questions here and plan before you spend money. Especially on the track you choose. I have no experience in HO track (I was given a few HO locos and cars, spending time with them is on the list), but in N, Bachmann is the low end of track, so I'm not sure on the reliability of thier turnouts and such in HO. Also, you might be quite tempted to buy the track on ebay, again wait until you know what you need, before you bid on what seems like a bargain and end up with ummm, extra stuff.
