I was cleaning out the attic the other day and found my very first HO steam engine set. I don't recall the make of the set . All the engine say's on the bottom of it is made in Germany. Maybe it's an old IHC. Any way, after about two hours of cleaning the carpet fuzz out of the axles and gear boxs, I got it to run. It's not in bad shape but would need a new paint job. The engine and tender are both diecast and very heavy. QUESTION - Should I mess with it or just put it back in the attic????
Does it have any sentimental value to you? If not, then if there is an idea in mind for it's use.......? If you do have fond memories, then I would put it back in the attic. So there is no hindsight and regret. Boxcab E50
it depends on how well it runs. If it runs well or atleast decent, I'd give careful thought to a paint job. If it runs like crap....park it on the RIP track with an old boxcar or two.
As far as sentimemtal value, I would rather see it run than sit in the attic. All these years I thought it was sold with my parents house and I had it all the time. Only thing about putting it in a yard is I would have to paint it anyway because it now is in B+O Royal blue. It runs but not that great, I just might paint it and park it, at least it will be out to be seen.
Probably a fleischmann, if its German... you might have a problem with the flanges beign too deep, otherwise, oil it up!!!
