Help- I rebuild or build old ( 50's to 60's ) freight car kits- biggest problem is finding matching paint to the prepainted sides of boxcars/hoppers/cabooses etc. How do I find best match- I use most of the usual Polyscale, Testors etc paints - I like spray cans- have a very light touch and can even blend with the spray cans- but colors sometimes are just not a good match. i do use acrylics to create weathering effects.
Give me some great ideas/links/resources - please
Will add pictures of my projects once I figure out how

Howdy again. These old car kits were probably painted with Floquil or if they are from the 50's, it was 410-M. That old paint is long gone, but Floquil might be an alternative. Not the Poly Scale or Testors (they own Floquil now) but the older line colors. Floquil is now enamel but they have many of the old colors in the line. I have found that Humbrol enamels match many "obsolete" colors, maybe you can find that.
    Good luck with this.

Will try esp Humbrol - have you found that using water based acrylics might work esp on wood?
