Colonel, you're welcome - I'm happy to share what I've been fortunate enough to see. Thanks most of all, to the permission of the layout owners involved!
I envy those who can run trains more then 6 Carriages long !!! When you have as limited space as I have... Sacrifices have to be made to keep the hobby alive..
mophead, glad you like it. i'm running 7 or 8 in that one. have 8 more painted, waiting for decaling and another half dozen on order. beast
john, Excellent stuff I guess when I think of unit trains I think of modern railroading however your shots show us that unit trains were also in the steam eras
There were many coal trains in the steam era, but they probably didn't call them unit trains back then
Detour over the Royal Gorge Western: Rio Grande Coal Liner coal train, rerouted over the Royal Gorge Western: All photos taken by John Widmar, on his Royal Gorge Western, on my last visit. Had an enjoyable afternoon/evening that day!! Thanks again John!
Keith, Looks like you had a great afternoon, I really love Johns bridge work and I'm sure it looks even better in person. What type of hoppers are those?
Paul, The hoppers are MDC/Roundhouse 50' Thrall hoppers. In my case, some are restenciled cars, the rest are DRGW Coal Liner cars. Still hoping to locate more of these cars!!
looking good Paul!!! It is also good to see this thread still going. C'mon folks, let's keep posting!!!
Bump Just wanted to bring this one up for air so new members could be inspired. Just recieved these from my main e-taylor: My first unit train: I'm sorry there is no scenery but I feel there will be some very soon. Larger picture: http://www.railimages.com/albums/Canadian-Pacific/aad.jpg
Hey this is a really neat thread! But what is a 'unit' train? From what I see here, I can only guess that it means a couple engines and a really, really, really long string of identical cars? If that's the case, I'll have to take a picture of my SP F-units pulling ALL FOUR of my SP overnight boxcars. That is, if my boxcars show up in the mail today...
