I'm starting to think there is more British and Dutch locomotives available than US style in 3D models these days. I noticed that NS1500 is available in Smoothest Fine Detail Plastic for the same price as Smooth, and the Smoothest comes out really nice these days. I order it whenever they have it as an option.

Tonights progress on the 76. The sandboxes are going to be vital to reduce the gaps around the Shorty trucks but at normal viewing distances at a show I hope nobody notices. Also in the picture is the Class 87 having its yellow ends painted first and behind it is the brass 1366 saddle tank which I missed off the list

Plenty to go out although I'm not that interested in the 700 series EMUs or the GWR railcars personally

Work in progress from the 'Shaughty' Locomotive works!

CMAC Class 87 and 76 in Z. Both mounted on stretched RoKuhan Shorty Chassis. The 87 has a Marklin Faively pantograph and the 76 has two Marklin E44 pantographs. Becuase of the short wheelbase of the Rokuhan chassis I'll need to fill the gap underneath with something. probably another ballast weight, The 87 will have all the prototype undeframe fittings scratchbuilt. They will be finished in the classic BR Railblue color scheme

They are at the stage where they will get a clearcote varnish layer before the decals are added . Need to get the nameplates for the 87. Las twill be the matt finish and flush glazing

My 00 scale DRS class 87, a heavily modified Lima model sits behind ( it did not look like this when I picked it up from a toy fair for £20)

So I've sort of settled on a standard way of cutting and shutting the Shorty to make any length chassis. This is the one for the 76. excuse the messy wiring, I can't tidy it up until I have got all the ballast weights in.

the basic idea is to leave the shorty chassis shell as it is.Bond an extension piece on at the back to suit the wheelbase made from plasticard glued with Plastic weld . The 3D printed trailing truck mount is bonded on to the end with epoxy and then two stiffening beams added from the top of the mount to the back of the shorty. The pickup plate that sits above the trailing truck is reverse engineered from Copperclad to mimic the Rokuhan one but has the pickup wires outboard of the chassis, to give me more wriggle room with the wiring and also to make the directional headlight wiring at that end easier. You can see where I have thinned the sides to make it a snug fit in a British outline bodyshell

    The clock is ticking!

only a very few weeks before Port Shaughty debuts at Leyland show

    So.

    utter chaos in the workshop

This is a very simple, small, layout made to show the varirty of trains you cn make using a Rokuhan Shorty chassis

sadly the impressive LCT is the wrong scale. I bought it for Brooklyn for £8 from a local thrift store but it is 1/144th

So, I've addded a simple loop of extra track. This will be the Tram line (Streetcar, Interurban) which is completely separate fron the main line. We will run the Shorty powered Stonysmith streetcars on it just so there is always something running when the public are in front

Low relief buildings reclaimed from Cuyahoga

As i mentioned elsewhere, the Street car has had lead and powdered Tungsten weights added

I'll dim the lights when I've got a boat lit up. The small harbour tug has had LEDs on the bridge fitted and I'm trying to see the best way to get wires up to the navigation lights invisibly. There is not a lot of room and the structure is glued solid and won't split. Might involve a long drillbit and a lot of care

We've done a lot of test running and in addition to anything fitted to a Shorty chassis we have found that a lot of the British diesels sat on Marklin Bo-Bo chassis also get round quite reliably. I think we'll run it at Leyland as a port situated on the western region of the U'K and give the Diesel Hydraulic Warships and Hymeks a run out as wll as the Type 2 Class 24 and 25s

A Hymek brings a rake of ferr

y vans in as the Clas 25 waits to depart with some low sided 4 wheelers

The 25 again. at the rear a class 73 electro diesel (Diesel traction as well as 600V third rail) waits with a rake of SPA steel coils

If the weather stays decent tomorrow I'll make the flight case for it

    Dim the lights Eh?

What is does show up is, Now I've added lighting to a couple of vessels, is the big gap where the light gets out!

The cables from the boats go through the dock wall to pre installed feeds underneath and connect with JST Connectors. This means the boats can come off for transport

The warning lights on the Helipad next and the one on the lift Bridge.

Once everything is lit up I can feel the need to get the smoke machine out for a bit of 'Marine Layer'!

Been doing more intensive testing over the last couple of days. 4 axle Marklin chassis get round fine, 6 axles not.

Anything Rokuhan fine, including the KIHA Diesel railcars and the DE10 diesels

The layout facia board is made and drilled. Just need to do the lettering

Four days and counting to the show debut
