Hey Matt https://www.shapeways.com/product/GULKJNTE3/ns1500-z?optionId=198458480&li=marketplace Might want to have a go at one of these first I'm going to order one this week to see what it is like Sometimes, You get real lucky when you are out and about Hence my strapline about photographing everything rail Kev
I'm starting to think there is more British and Dutch locomotives available than US style in 3D models these days. I noticed that NS1500 is available in Smoothest Fine Detail Plastic for the same price as Smooth, and the Smoothest comes out really nice these days. I order it whenever they have it as an option.
Hi Robert Iit is remrkable the options we have in British Z Here is the list (taken from my insurance database) of the ones I have done so far and the chassis that fits Marklin Class 07 0-6-0 BR blue 07 001 Marklin V60 Marklin Class 07 0-6-0 BR Green D2985 Marklin V60 Shapeways class 24 Rail blue 24 031 RE 4/4 IV chassis Shapeways Class 25 Rail blue 25 319 RE 4/4 IV chassis Shapeways Class 35 Hymek Rail blue 7027 E40 chassis Shapeways Class 35 Hymek Rail blue 7031 E111 Shapeways Class 37 Co-Co Rail blue 37 013 Vampire Tapered BR 103 Shapeways Class 37 Co-Co BR Big arrow 37 025 Inverness TMD Tapered BR 103 Shapeways Class 37 Co-Co BR Green Tapered BR 103 Shapeways Class 37 Co-Co Early railfreight 37 008 Hornet Tapered BR 103 Shapeways Class 42 Warship Rail blue 815 Glory SBB 460 Shapeways Class 42 Warship Rail blue 870 Zulu SBB 460 Shapeways Class 42 Warship BR Maroon 821 Greyhound SBB 460 Resin/marklin Class 43 HST Power car Intercity Resin/marklin Class 43 HST Power car Intercity Resin/marklin Class 47 Co-Co DRS 47 829 BR103 or 151 chassis Elmar Class 47 Co-Co BR blue 47 170 BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 47 Co-Co BR Railfreight Grey/Big arrow 47 302 BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 47 Co-Co BR Blue/Big arrow 47 172 BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 47 Co-Co Virgin red/black 47 822 Pride of Shrewsbury BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 47 Co-Co Intercity 47 676 Bnorthamptonshire BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 47 Co-Co Unlettered rail blue BR103 or 151 chassis Elmar Class 47 Co-Co unpainted BR103 or 151 chassis Elmar Class 47 Co-Co BR Big arrow 47 712 Lady Diana Spencer BR103 or 151 chassis Shapeways Class 55 Deltic Railblue 55018 Ballymoss MTL SD40-2 chassis Resin/marklin Class 56 Co-Co Dutch 56 048 BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 56 Co-Co Big arrow 56 031 BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 56 Co-Co Railblue 56 006 BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 56 Co-Co undec BR103 or 151 chassis Resin/marklin Class 57 Co-Co DRS 57 002 BR103 or 151 chassis Shapeways EMD Class 66 Co-Co DRS 66 436 MTL SD40-2 chassis Shapeways Class 86 AC Electric Rail blue 86 102 BR 120 chassis Shapeways Class 86 AC Electric Virgin 86 205 City of Coventry BR 120 chassis Shapeways Class 87 Electric 87 xxx Modified Shorty Shapeways Class 73 Electro diesel Rail blue 73 177 BR111 chassis Shapeways Class 86 AC Electric Intercity 86 234 City of Lancaster BR 120 chassis Shapeways Class 86 AC Electric Intercity 86 208 City of Chester BR 120 chassis Shapeways Class 76 DC Electric 76 xxx Modified Shorty Z-club/Marklin LNER A4 4-6-2 BR green 60027 Merlin BR 18 Atlas LNER A4 4-6-2 Garter blue unmotorised Atlas LNER A4 4-6-2 Garter blue unmotorised Z-club/Marklin LNER A3 4-6-2 BR green 60062 Minoru BR 18 Atlas LNER A3 4-6-2 BR green 60066 Merry Hampton BR 18 Atlas LNER A3 4-6-2 Apple green 4472 Flying Scotsman BR 18 Marklin LNER K3 2-6-0 BR Black 64003 Ex BR24 Diecast GER 0-6-0T Tram engine LNER unmotorised Atlas SR West Country 4-6-2 Malachite Green 21C110 un-named BR18 chassis Atlas SR Battle of Britain 4-6-2 BR green 34066 Spitfire BR18 chassis Shapeways SR Merchant navy 4-6-2 BR green 34018 Axminster BR18 chassis Shapeways USATC 0-6-0T BR Black 30012 BR 89 chassis Shapeways USATC 0-6-0T BR Black 30018 BR 89 chassis Shapeways SR rebuilt Merchant navy BR green 35020 Bibby Line BR18 chassis Atlas SR Merchant navy 4-6-2 BR green 35017 Belgian marine BR18 chassis Atlas King 4-6-0 BR green 6000 Unmotorised Shapeways WD 2-10-0 BR Black 90756 Marklin BR 44 Shapeways LMS Patriot 4-6-0 BR green BR 38 chassis Shapeways LMS Patriot 4-6-0 LMS Crimson Lake 45519 Lady Godiva BR 38 chassis Shapeways Derby Lightweight DMU railblue Plus Z Shapeways Derby Lightweight DMU Blue/red Test Coach IRIS Plus Z Shapeways Class 158 DMU Regional Railways Modified Shorty Shapeways Class 158 DMU Regional Railways Modified Shorty Shapeways Class 175 DMU TFW Modified Shorty Shapeways Class 175 DMU TFW Modified Shorty Shapeways USATC 0-6-0T Plain green 3 BR89 Marklin Vanguard 0-6-0DH BSC Yellow 5 Marklin V60 Shapeways Barclay 0-6-0T NCB Green 1 BR 89 Shapeways GE 70tonner BSC Yellow 6 Shorty Shapeways GE 70tonner BSC Yellow 8 Shorty Shapeways BTH Bo-Bo Ford Mid green Shorty Shapeways GE-Ingersol Rand Mid green 2 Shorty There are some out there I havn't bought and I'll list them tomorrow but there is a lot to go at Kev
Tonights progress on the 76. The sandboxes are going to be vital to reduce the gaps around the Shorty trucks but at normal viewing distances at a show I hope nobody notices. Also in the picture is the Class 87 having its yellow ends painted first and behind it is the brass 1366 saddle tank which I missed off the list Kev
With the exception of the 1366 saddle tank (which I forgot I'd bought!) these are all the other 3D printed British Z bodyshells available on Shapeways Shapeways Class 101 DMU Shapeways GWR Single railcar Shapeways GWR Double railcar Shapeways GWR Parcels railcar Shapeways GWR 0-6-0PT Shapeways GWR 0-6-0ST Shapeways EMD Class 77 Shapeways Class 180 DMU Shapeways Class 71 DC electric Shapeways Metrovick Co-Bo Shapeways Class 707 EMU Shapeways NS 1500 (BR class 77) Shapeways Class 717 EMU Shapeways Class 700 EMU Shapeways Class 08 0-6-0DE Plenty to go out although I'm not that interested in the 700 series EMUs or the GWR railcars personally Kev
Work in progress from the 'Shaughty' Locomotive works! CMAC Class 87 and 76 in Z. Both mounted on stretched RoKuhan Shorty Chassis. The 87 has a Marklin Faively pantograph and the 76 has two Marklin E44 pantographs. Becuase of the short wheelbase of the Rokuhan chassis I'll need to fill the gap underneath with something. probably another ballast weight, The 87 will have all the prototype undeframe fittings scratchbuilt. They will be finished in the classic BR Railblue color scheme They are at the stage where they will get a clearcote varnish layer before the decals are added . Need to get the nameplates for the 87. Las twill be the matt finish and flush glazing My 00 scale DRS class 87, a heavily modified Lima model sits behind ( it did not look like this when I picked it up from a toy fair for £20) So I've sort of settled on a standard way of cutting and shutting the Shorty to make any length chassis. This is the one for the 76. excuse the messy wiring, I can't tidy it up until I have got all the ballast weights in. the basic idea is to leave the shorty chassis shell as it is.Bond an extension piece on at the back to suit the wheelbase made from plasticard glued with Plastic weld . The 3D printed trailing truck mount is bonded on to the end with epoxy and then two stiffening beams added from the top of the mount to the back of the shorty. The pickup plate that sits above the trailing truck is reverse engineered from Copperclad to mimic the Rokuhan one but has the pickup wires outboard of the chassis, to give me more wriggle room with the wiring and also to make the directional headlight wiring at that end easier. You can see where I have thinned the sides to make it a snug fit in a British outline bodyshell More soon Kev
The clock is ticking! only a very few weeks before Port Shaughty debuts at Leyland show So. utter chaos in the workshop This is a very simple, small, layout made to show the varirty of trains you cn make using a Rokuhan Shorty chassis sadly the impressive LCT is the wrong scale. I bought it for Brooklyn for £8 from a local thrift store but it is 1/144th much more soon
So, I've addded a simple loop of extra track. This will be the Tram line (Streetcar, Interurban) which is completely separate fron the main line. We will run the Shorty powered Stonysmith streetcars on it just so there is always something running when the public are in front Low relief buildings reclaimed from Cuyahoga As i mentioned elsewhere, the Street car has had lead and powdered Tungsten weights added Kev
I'll dim the lights when I've got a boat lit up. The small harbour tug has had LEDs on the bridge fitted and I'm trying to see the best way to get wires up to the navigation lights invisibly. There is not a lot of room and the structure is glued solid and won't split. Might involve a long drillbit and a lot of care We've done a lot of test running and in addition to anything fitted to a Shorty chassis we have found that a lot of the British diesels sat on Marklin Bo-Bo chassis also get round quite reliably. I think we'll run it at Leyland as a port situated on the western region of the U'K and give the Diesel Hydraulic Warships and Hymeks a run out as wll as the Type 2 Class 24 and 25s A Hymek brings a rake of ferr y vans in as the Clas 25 waits to depart with some low sided 4 wheelers The 25 again. at the rear a class 73 electro diesel (Diesel traction as well as 600V third rail) waits with a rake of SPA steel coils If the weather stays decent tomorrow I'll make the flight case for it Kev
Dim the lights Eh? What is does show up is, Now I've added lighting to a couple of vessels, is the big gap where the light gets out! The cables from the boats go through the dock wall to pre installed feeds underneath and connect with JST Connectors. This means the boats can come off for transport The warning lights on the Helipad next and the one on the lift Bridge. Once everything is lit up I can feel the need to get the smoke machine out for a bit of 'Marine Layer'! Been doing more intensive testing over the last couple of days. 4 axle Marklin chassis get round fine, 6 axles not. Anything Rokuhan fine, including the KIHA Diesel railcars and the DE10 diesels The layout facia board is made and drilled. Just need to do the lettering Four days and counting to the show debut Kev
