An article written by Brian Koeller in Wednesday's edition of the Northwest Signal(Napoleon,Ohio) alludes to the possible acquisition of the Maumee and Western Railroad. The Northwest Ohio regional Port Authority(Comprised of Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Paulding Counties) recently approved funds for the the $15,000 application (MAW is providing $7500 and the Port authority is providing the rest) to apply for a grant of $95.8 million. The grant will be used to improve the freight service by having the Port authority acquire the line and then repair and upgrade the 50 miles that run through Ohio. The Port Authority also states that the improvements will be compatible for future use as a possible Hi-Speed rail service line from Cleveland to Chicago.
