Hi gang - I bought a used RMT Beep (NYC) online a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what's normal for these, but mine has what I'd consider borderline performance. It seems to have a lot of gear noise when it runs, doesn't have much speed, and doesn't pull particularly well... 5 cars seem to be a pretty hefty burden for it. In contrast my little Lionel Thunder Valley 0-6-0 dockside switcher runs and pulls great, as do my other loco's on the same setup. Is this just typical of the BEEPs, and if mine's not normal, any suggestions what a cause could be and what can be done to help it any? Thanks in advance for any help....I'll be checking in.
Hi, It does sound a bit anemic. You might want to e mail them and ask. Walter M. Matuch/RMT [wmatuch@readymadetoys.com] They are customer friendly and good people to deal with. Greg Elems
Hi Greg - Haven't gotten around to contacting them yet...been caught up with work and kid's schedule lately. Will do so asap! Thanks!
Walter got back to me in about an hour this morning. (great response time!). He suggested a lube with white lithium grease, and also suggested that perhaps the former owner had damaged some circuitry. I'm going try the lube and see what we get. He linked me to some nice deals on new BEEPs from their website for < $60 through the end of Jan 2012.
The lube helped quiet the gear noise a little, but didn't help the power issue. I'm guessing that's all there is with these.
