I have a SD75i shell in the Heritage II scheme that I want to renumber, so I want to remove the road numbers and leave the orange paint beneath in tact. Any advice or ideas (hopefully based on experience ;>)) on how to safely remove the numbers would be most appreciated. Thanks, John
Have you tried a pencil eraser (a new, soft eraser, not a hardened one from an old pencil to avoid scratching the background paint)? We've had good luck on factory painted N scale models with this technique.
I have removed numbers from Marklin coal wagons with Brasso and a sharpened match (wood) , the finish is very shiny, which will help with decal application. I haven't reached the decal stage yet as i am still trying to fire up my ALPS printer.
I've tried to get the lettering off of their E units for re-paint and nothing takes them off! I ended up using a flattened toothpick with some 1200 grit sand paper and water to carefully sand them down...use loops or a magnifier! Cheers Joe MTL
The paint AZL use on their brass is very different then the ones they use on their plastic. I think they use a two part epoxy paint on their brass, and its impossible to remove. David Smith has sucess removing the logo on his GP7. He used alcohol to remove it.
