Does anyone know where to get parts for these things? I have one of the two truck kits that was given to my father years ago when they first came out. I have built the kit and found out that it is missing one of the drive shaft U-joints and don't know where to contact to get these parts. I don't do ebay, otherwise I might just look for another to part out/make into a backshop static model.

You might try Northwest Short Line. Ask if they have something available.

Here are some links I have accumulated. I do not have the MDC Shay, only the MDC Climax that runs very good with DCC/sound.

The NWSL site. There is a page or two for the Roundhouse/MDC locos.

Everyone, even if you do not use these sites, save them to your Favorites to send to others. People or are not Internet aware appreciate "direct" links to a vendor or site.

    Hi
If you get the upgrade kits from NWSL, part of the upgrade is replacing those large driveshafts with some that are much smaller, and stealthier. The part numbers are
bull gear kit 188-6 and 186-6 partial re-gear kit. In the picture below it shows the large (black plastic) driveshafts on my desk with the new (metal shafts, plastic u joints) replacements laying beside them. Hope this helps. In addition to the new driveshaft you also recieve the couplings to match the smaller u joints. I think for both kits it was around $25.00 total
