Yesterday at UP's Butler Yard, I saw a CP freight waiting for departure. I think it was headed to Portage. But why was it on the UP tracks? I also saw some CP locos by the UP shops. Mind boggling..I've never seen any CP power there before. I'll have pics tomorrow night. One of which was also a new sight. A CPR pick up truck roaming UP's yard. Anybody know why CP has stuff on the UP? Thanks
Just northwest of Milwaukee I've been thinkin' and there's no connection anywhere near Milwaukee where CP trains could get on the UP. This will require further investigation [ 18 April 2001: Message edited by: CPRailfan ]
Thanks Drew - you might be seeing alot more SOO power over there - apperently the detours are expected to last for a few weeks. Let us know what you see
I'll go check it out! I'll be back with info somewhere around 10 PM ET. [ 18 April 2001: Message edited by: CPRailfan ]
Just saw your update. The I think the BNSF river line is flooding too CP is using WC's St Croix River Bridge to get to Stevens Point (Ironicly an old Soo Line bridge that was owned by CP and will soon be a CN bridge) at least as much traffic as the WC can handle - but I heard they are doing this to get to New Lisbon - from there through Portage to Mil I don't know why they would be on the UP - why not use CP tracks. Is there flooding between you and New Lisbon?
CP AREA MAP UP AREA MAP It's still hard to figure out. You really can't tell from these maps, but it looks like CP has haulage rights on some of UP's tracks. From what I could tell tonight, no CP units in the yard. I will check these next couple days and keep ya posted Anybody have any leads? [ 18 April 2001: Message edited by: CPRailfan ]
cpheavyhaul (groups.yahoo.com) has lots of confusing information - I think that the whole of the train dispathers in MN and WI are as conufused as we are! lol Anyway - the line from Tunnel City to Winona is part of the CPR/SOO Tomah Sub (was MILW then SOO now CP) and UP has trackage rights that C&NW negotiatied in the 70's when their tunnel at Tunnel City caved in. My layout of the future will most likly be the Tomah Sub so I am getting to know that area (all be it from 9000 miles away) fairly well.
Mains are flooded, traffic is being rerouted guys.......things should be back to normal in a few days, after everything settles and the water moves south. Jon
Thanks Jon! I was out golfing today, and the UP tracks go right by the course. I saw two UP freights, and a CSX freight. No sign of CPR, but I'm heading to the yard now. I should have updates by tomorrow, or Saturday night, depending on when I get to a computer. Later [ 19 April 2001: Message edited by: CPRailfan ]
Butler Yard, 4-19-01 1.CSX freight (destination Superior, WI) 2.UP locomotives all over the place ie. I saw a UP flared radiator(no wings) pictures from today, coming soon pictures of CP train from a couple days ago, coming tomorrow night! [ 20 April 2001: Message edited by: CPRailfan ]
Hey Drew , do you see any CN trains up there where your at ? , I know CN has ALOT of trains that run into Superior , Wisconsin . Do they got to a CP yard or what ?
Dave, I hang out around UP's Butler Yard (just NW of Milwaukee). There it's just UP, and sometimes CSX run-throughs. I also go to CP's Milwaukee-St.Paul main(just S of Milwaukee). There, it's just CP and Amtrak, with one daily Chicago-bound WC train. I've never seen a CN train at either location. I know CN runs on the WC, and the closest place to see WC action is in Duplainville(20 miles west of Mil.). I was just out there last weekend, but not a train to be seen. I have seen CN up near Waupaca, WI. Lots of CN trains! I love CN's locomotives too Hopefully with this WC-CN thing, I'll see some CN action here in Milwaukee.
