Here is a Bridge I'm working on. It is a kit from Micron Art. What do you think about the weathering? It is so hard to capture it in a photo, because it changes so much with every angle. I copied a prototype and spent 8 hours weathering it from top to bottom. :-D I add soot to the overhead items, rust building under he beams, greese stains & grim everywhere. The silver is a custom blend of PollyScale Paints. EDIT: I think the colors might be off... I should have fixed that before I posted the photos. The computer gave them a "green" tint. The model has more of a orange hue to it, not green. Like the rust looks maroon in the photos but in real life it looks more orange. Sorry! :tb-err:
Jürg, I love that bridge you use in your photos. In fact it was one of your photos that made up my mind to get one of these bridges for myself. :tb-wink:
Instead of just building a diorama Eddie, why not build a small ZBT module, say 2' x 2', and use a backdrop as a divider to build 2 diorama's, one on each side. You can go asymmetrical with the backdrop, or even use mountains as the backdrop, then diagonal with the river coming out of the mountains.
But ZBT modules are double track so you'll have to build another one Looks good, nice weathering. Consider Rob's idea to build a ZBT module, even if only 2' long. Divide it in the middle and you can can use it at the shows. Or, build two 1x2 modules that can be paired back-to-back for shows or in-line for home. Just make sure that the tracks are 18 and 20" on centers when the modules are back-to-back. .
Hi, I am not a doer, just a talker but, what about an india ink wash. Something that might be washable if it comes out badly. Drag from top to bottom. Allow to puddle in cracks so it looks like shadows. Needs a treatment to look like the bridge has sat out in the rain for years. Maybe someone else has a better idea for giving it that rained on look. Bill El Toro, CA
Don't worry I'll build a module in time. This is for a small layout... I'll be able to run around and switch. I've already invested in it so, there is no stopping now. It's what I want. I will be giving the bridge a black wash. The wash will make the details pop and add a little grim in the corners.
Nice job, I really don't have a great suggestion for weathering, but then again not everything has to look old, does it?
Hi Eddie, even the photos are not showing the rust, the green touch is realistic too, on old stuff everything can grow.... BTW: looks great!
