I'll get us started bright and early with this storm light shot of the former D&RGW La Jara, CO depot:
From 05/14/1976, a westbound at Barrington, IL. Interesting that GP-35 833 lacks mu hoses. It also lacks a bell on the nose, a common feature on C&NW diesel power. These were bought new by the C&NW in the spring of '64.
Without a bell, my first thought was that it must be a former CGW unit, but I wuz wrong. In the train's consist are loaded auto racks, with all of the vehicles fully exposed as was typical for the era. The C&NW must have loved GM. In other b&w negatives I see Chevrolets moving from the Janesville, WI plant toward Chicago and in others I see Pontiacs moving from Chicago west to perhaps Madison, WI. No doubt these loads passed by each other on a regular basis.
Here's one from somewhere in eastern PA. Maybe near Reading. Lost my notes from this trip. Feb. 7, 2004
I used to daydream about having a home built in railroad style, such as this one. In the heyday of railroads, this must have been an interesting place to be. Working downstairs, and living above.
About a dozen years ago, this late Train #8, gets away from Whitefish, Montana. Another gray day, with thunderstorms later on:
Wow, that's a beautiful photo JP. Being an easterner, I'm quite sure my camera would lock up, unable to calculate an exposure for such an open, well-lit view. My camera recognizes only trees, phone wires, billboards, asphalt and filthy black NS units.
Nah... It's easy. Just turn the doohickey and watch the gauge, keep in mind to turn up the gizmo before the loud thing blows.
Natchez Railway GP38-2 2147, now part of the Vermont Railway power roster, leaving White River Junction, VT to head north on subsidiary Washington Valley ( former Boston & Maine trackage) November 15, 2018. Sent from my LM-X210CM using Tapatalk
My curiosity is raised also! I've found a Washington County RR and a Vermont Valley RR but not that one.
I'm thinking that Bob meant to type "Washington County". I have found some maps of the Vermont RY system. But I am not quite sure who has what trackage rights. There appear to be a few completely disconnected segments. Separate shortlines? This is interesting! I am surprised by how much of the old Rutland seems to have not just survived, but thrived. I never would have imagined those tracks going from old ALCo units, to seeing SD70's running.
