Three unusual and thus fun catches at the 2012 Spring CRHS Rail B Q in Newport, PA (taken 5 May 2012.)
Made the drive up to Toledo yesterday. Saw PNWR #2308 doing some shunting duties. Pretty ratty looking GP39-2.
On the PNWR theme... And since tomorrow is National Train Day somewhere (just not in Portland anymore... >sniff< >sob<)... Adam
MBTA GP40X Pushing Afternoon Commuters into Boston. It is crossing the "Bussy Street Bridge" in Roslindale, MA. From wikipedia: On March 14, 1887, a Boston & Providence Railroad train consisting of a locomotive and nine passenger cars inbound from Dedham to Boston with over 200 passengers, was passing over a bridge at Bussey Street, in the current Arnold Arboretum, when the bridge collapsed causing the rear five cars to pile up on top of each other, killing twenty-three and injuring over one hundred.[SUP][4][/SUP] This is considered one of the first major rail catastrophes in the country, and contributed to the widespread inspection of train bridges across the U.S.[SUP][3][/SUP]
About 200 yards down the line I found an less obstructed view and a bit of "Urban Art" or "Graffiti" depending on perspective: Next week maybe a pic with an unobstructed view.

Came across this grafitti "portrait" on the side of a BNSF 3 bay covered hopper recently. Thought it was neat, erie and worth a shot! From a slight ankle. Same thing, only more of a head on shot.
Three things stood out Friday while Railfanning, a car with Goverment gafitti, the rail detector car in tow behind a flat car and Loco, and a trackmobile used for switch the fuel depot in Downey. *
My favorite picture taken during the Conrail Historical Society's Rail-B-Q at Newport, Pennsylvania on May 5, 2012. Here's Amtrak P42DC and Amtubes westbound on NS's former PRR Middle Division: DFF
