Picked up a Kato Santa Fe F7 in the blue/yellow at a train show for $25. Its a older run and heavy as hell but besides not having a box in is great shape. Kevin
Over the weekend I picked up a sweet running Athearn 2-8-0 and 4 pack of 50' Overland passenger cars all in D&RGW paint for $40! They didn't have their boxes and they all have rapido couplers, but they are in great shape and the loco runs like new so I can't complain too much. (Well, I can complain lots about how hard it will be to install a decoder, but that's a gripe for Athearn, not you guys :tb-biggrin
Don't forget to post pics folks! I just bought a handful of caboose industries groundthrows as well as another Walthers modulars kit. I also purchased a digitrax decoder for my Kato SD40 from the LHS and found out two sad truths: 1) My SD40 is an early model and is not DCC Ready, and 2) The "Decoder" was actually a Kato lightboard from a SD40. Looks like someone gently repackaged this lightboard and returned it back to the LHS. Free decoder eh? Some people are so dishonest. I am hoping when I go back to the shop tomorrow the proprietor won't think I'm the dishonest one when I explain what I discovered.
Picked up two MTL new releases from my LHS (Western Pac gondola and BC tanker) at full retail. I know I can get it less online, but I have gotten some pretty sweet deals from him in the past.
Geez the beginnning phases of a layout can be pricey... phew Digitrax drop-in decoder for my GP38 high nose x6 - ...and FINALLY after years of covetting one
Four Kato "Y Turnouts" Six Atlas beer can / shorty tank cars which are either: white, black or white and black. I sent them home with my girlfriend and included "precision tip" sharpies with directions to her and her daughters, (20yo and 24yo), to mark them up in any way they liked. They came back with trees, birds, people and such. Works for me. Pics to follow at some point.
If I could find a Kato blue/grey TGV that would definitely be my latest purchase, but I haven't had much luck in my search. Thinking about tossing up a wanted ad in the TrainStore.
My latest buy was two EMD SD35's in utah colors. They should be at my front door on tuesday!:tb-biggrin:
Snagged a new Bachmann 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain, DCC on board ... for $99. Don't really need this steamer yet, but at that price how can you resist? Jim
I found an Amtrak Dash 8 in the Pepsi Can livery at my LHS. Paid full MSRP, but the last one on eBay went for $175!
I bought some Kato unitrak 9 3/4' pieces of straight track, pk of 4---$9.50 from Roy's Train World in Mesa, AZ, can't beat that price anywhere that I've found. Great hobby shop, great people. Also bought the set of double straights, and a shorty set for my T-TAK modules. Have a mess of engines and rolling stock, so it's just unitrak I'm getting at the moment.
Since all the fracking for natural gas started in our area, the Wellsboro and Corning Railroad has acquired five SD40-2 locos to go with their aging group of Alco's. Trains with 60+ cars of sand (mostly 2-bay hoppers), many from now extinct lines are showing up regularly. WCOR has needed to lease engines from NS to keep up with the demand at times. So NS SD40-2 and ex-Conrail SD40 also appear occasionally as well as ex-CR GP40-2, and NS B23-7. As a result I've gotten into a "modern" kick and have bought a CN SD40-2 ("somewhat" similar paint scheme to WCOR) and a CR SD40 along with a bunch of two bay hoppers (new ones from Athearn are particularly nice).
I can't seem to edit my post, so, here's another with a photo. A fine looking lineup, if I say so myself!
N scale Enthusiast UP rocket booster cars. Well, for $85 per car... I guess someone had to put together a bunch of N Scale Kits 8-axle HD flats. I didn't get the cars expecting every little detail and 100% accuracy, but the undersized load and printing that was all done on some kind of .020 card stock...Really? The name and data plates make the car wider than the load! The real car: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1445159
I saw that one go for more then I've ever seen, I got super lucky and found a pepsi can on N Scale Yard Sale a couple weeks ago for only $60. Atlas need to rerun these badly.
GP38-2 and U18B in D&H lighting stripes from Atlas. Storm Lake Mobil and Sunset Motel structure kits. Gonna try my hand at some laser cut wood kits. Got my stuff from Brooklyn Locomotive Works.
I went back to BASICS. Lately since we moved I could not find what clicked for me to run, what road name I wanted to run. I ran modern CSX and U.P. but I just could not be happy with it so I ran C&O and I really like running older road names. So to celebrate that I finally like to run something I got two C&O SD35's and three of the new Atlas released C&O cabooses the ones that come in red, yellow and blue. I also got some Athearn wood chip cars and some more C&O MT box cars.
Interesting load. I saw some flat cars sitting in the UP yard in SLC about a week or so ago that looked just like these cars to a point. had different identifier marks though.
