https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/logging-success-in-the-northwest.152017/ Interesting story, BNSF scrounging for old BN log cars! Moving logs again, old school!
Love it! I wonder how many cars they'll outfit for this service, and how long it will continue until the supply of charred timber is exhausted? I'm not a forestry expert, and I didn't stay at Holiday Inn Express last night, so how much fire damage will kill a tree and the tree will not recover? I know some forest fires are healthy to forests, to remove underbrush and allow mature trees to flourish.
Given the increased number of fires in the Pacific northwest from the increased climate heat, I'd like to think BNSF would see this as a continuing service.
Yeah, increasing numbers every year. BNSF would be smart to keep these cars around every Fall, forest fires becoming yearly occurrences now.
