I'm on a bit of a roll at the moment and started a building that I picked up ages ago. Fond of a treat, I couldn't just build it straight from the box so here is the first modification - moving the loading access doors. First, the 2 parts from the box. Next, the modified wall with some Squadron White filler to tidy the cut edges up. More to come..... Jon
I recognise that kit Jon, where do you get your Squadron White filler, I can't seem to get a decent one for filling styrene.
I got a tube each of Squadron White and Squadron Green from either The Model Shop in Newcastle or Doncaster show last year. My memoryis not what it was but I think it was Donny. Will you be going next month? It's easier to work with than Milliput but a lot smellier (chemical smell, so expect complaints from partners, kids and pets) Jon
Next phase of the kitbash done, with windows installed and other side walls fitted. Now to add some floors and roof to strengthen it all. Jon
Looking great Jon! That kit sure provides a good area of low relief building I do have some Milliput, but never really liked it. Will have to try some of the type you are using. Pity Squires don't stock it When is Doncaster show, and is it accessible easily if arriving by train?
Jon: Geo Roberts Printing is a very nice low relief building. Your scene just keeps getting better and better. Here is a G Roberts free standing building with only two walls used. The other two were scribed styrene intended to be poured slabs. I also got rid of the large door. Lots of these kits are good for kitbashing and not just the DPM modular items. Gives good variation.
Sapacif, great looking variation. By using plastic sheet for some walls, you can certainly stretch out a kit into numerous different buildings. Any pics of what you did with the rest of the kit? Jon
Jon: I took the rest of it (2 bldgs) and made this relief structure. It is a part of the town of Battleboro. You can see all the switching industries here. I just use a loading dock to specify some of the businesses, so specific spotting is not always required. This is one of my first designs, so all of the turnouts are trailing point. I have more complicated switching in other areas.
Excellent building there, Flash. I like the way it curves - very unusual. Looks like a teriffic layout all round. I'd love to see more. Jon
While all the layouts on show are British - mine was there 7 years ago - there is a great trade support, with plenty of American stuff for sale. Steam Powered Videos also take a stand at one of the few shows they attend, so take the plastic. Jon
Not much to show for an evening's work last night, but I did get the floors, roof and upper storey fitted. Now to fill all the unwanted gaps with Squadron White. The whole thing now stands just over 2' long by 10" high. It's a bit of a mess on the reverse, as I'm none too careful modelling the bits you don't see. The floors are there mainly to provide support to the structure and so you can't see the windows of a lower storey, when you look into the building. This is all that's left of the walls from the original kit. Jon
Ah, what a difference a coat of paint makes! Do you put light grey paint on then wipe it off, to highlight the mortar? Mine is nearly ready for painting.
