To save time I don't have this morning...thought I'd ask the Z Brain Trust if anyone makes a Z Pacific shell to fit a Marklin Mec... I just scored a 4-6-2 chassis that runs better than it should and would love to convert it to an SP Pacific for the NTS show. I know folks make some replacement shells in NN3, but not up on my Z Steam. Thanks! Joe MTL
I have two new of the 2-8-4's Märklin produced. Are these the shells you are looking for ? I was going to DCC and truck bash them to AZLs for extra pickup. .
I have not heard of a shell for the 4-6-2. There are shells for 4-6-4 mechanisms, and 4-6-0 mechanisms that I know of, but none look like an SP Pacific.
I still have just about all of the 4-6-4 conversion if anyone is interested. I also have a marklin 4-6-2 that I need to make a new body for. Joe: http://paintshop.railfan.net/images/other/sp_pacific.html
I'll take one!!!! Chris, I'll take one!!! I am guessing you are taking about the beautifully etched loco you built some time ago. I'll have a go at it. Please send artwork my way!!!!! Hobo Tim p.s. Hope I got it right!
Tim, I haven't made a body for the 4-6-2 yet. It will be a USRA heavy and I'll be able to use the same body for a 2-8-2. I made the 2-8-4 http://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/ZScaleBerkshire and started a 2-10-2 http://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/ZScale2102 You are welcome to any of that artwork though. It will be nice to see what happens of this: http://www.nascalemodels.com/mikado.html Joe, SP pacifics look kinda close to a USRA light and the Marklin shell is a caricature of that. Could just be re-worked.
Joe, what I do is use the tender off one of the MT moguls. I add it to a stock marklin pacific which has been slighty modified to SP style. (number boards/bell/nose headlight painted black around the edges/and weathered). Suddenly you get a good looking loco! Sure the tender numbers are wrong and I have not renumbered the loco, but it kinda captures the flavor at least.
Penzee makes a trailing truck (casting) that will improve that fake sheet metal look: http://www.hobbycraftsnmore.com/php3dp30mub0020/products.php?cat=288 I think Aspen Model had one at one time. I know there is one in the Hudson kit, in brass. .
Chris, Joe, Thanks! I was digging around here and found a box of junk stuff and what do you know...found the Marklin shell and your're right, almost there...good enough for me! Wow, much easier than I suspected. One of the ladders on the pilot is busted off, but I can replace all that. I have the short Vandy tender, but started scratchbuilding a pattern for the longer one based on the drawings I have in a Mainline Modeler. This now gives me the motivation to press on with the patterns for the Outside Braced Boxcars I set aside awhile back. Cool! Now all I need to do is convince management we need to do Heavyweights in Z! ) Thanks for coming through guys! Cheers Joe
Joe, Aspen makes two large tenders. A large RTR Vandy Tender Aspenmodel - Fine Model Trains A large RTR 12 Wheel Tender Aspenmodel - Fine Model Trains John
Joe, I have a extra brand new, never ran Marklin body shell if you want it... it's even got a Southern Pacific number on the cab, but would guess it is the wrong number.
Hi Chris, Wow, that would be fantastic! I'll send you a couple outside braced box car castings when I get them done for trade. Let me know what I need to do on my end to get it here. Cheers Joe
Make sure you renumber Joe so you don't confuse them with my 2 consist. edit: never mind. Mine will look like Märklin and yours will look like, well, an SP. :we-eek:
And what about the craftsman (whom I forgot the name) that promises us an USRA Heavy Mike for the next fall? Dom
Dom, That would be North American Scale Models, North American Scale Models I understand they are going to have shots or parts at the NTS in July, if they are there I or someone will post shots of them. Cheers Joe
Joe, was the tender for the Hallmark Veranda (2006?) a Vanderbilt? There are probably a bunch of those on eBay, etc. Dan S.
Dan, Gee, not sure, on the real one they had special tenders for the fuel...need to check it out...thanks! Joe
