Thanks! Now, all i have to go is get the river ready, and wait for track to get here. Hope to get the trestle installed this week. Thanks again
Well, The track came in early so i got it all put together glued down and ready for trains to run. So happy with how this came out!! Shots below
Well, I couldn't sleep so i got up and did some Plaster cloth. I had two shots of that snow and then this morning i was having my coffee and decided to do more of it. All together i have 4 shots of the snow fun..yeah that..
And more fun. And more..and more... I have about 95% done on the logging camp. I have a idea..yeah, i know.. I am thinking about adding a creek from the hill down from the logging camp heading down to the river. Maybe a place to fly fish. I also started the big mountain a bit. That mountain is gonna be a hard thing to build. Have a few down below, Laters
Can I make a suggestion to help you with better pictures? I'm assuming all your pictures are taken with a cell phone (based on the file naming convention)? If so, try turning off your flash. It appears you are using flash, which causes the aperture to close down. But cell phone flash is not very powerful, leading to a large portion of you photos (the areas further away from the camera) being very dark.
I will try that. I have the layout lights on but are where they are supposed to be but the layout is turned 90 degrees from those lights. I have led dimable lights. i am wondering if the lights themselves are getting weaker? Will try and see what happens. Will let you know.
<Pipe in choir singing> Let there be light!!!! Now we can really see your great work so much better!!!!! Carry on!
Started to mess with scenery i chose to do the new mountain as its about as close as it can be. I got the camp buildings down and in place. Planted some trees but will need a lot more. Stumps and logs are next. More ground cover needed
I started to work with drywall mud. I need to learn how to do this again. Haven't did this for around 6-8 years now. Way out of practice. A couple of shots of this fun.
There has to be something wrong with the mud i bought. I mixed it till my drill ran out of battery power. Its still water like and goes on like thick paint or something. It wants to go down in a pool at the bottom of the mountain. Its easier to play with plaster cloth than this stuff. I am wondering if it a bad batch or if it froze or something. I guess its Ace hardware or something. Deb got it for me. I am going to go get more somewhere else. Plaster cloth is pretty much done. Just some things needing finished. Some shots of the fun below.
I've been kicking around the idea of adding a creek next to the main line on the back side of the camp heading to the river. Shots below
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish with the Ace spackle but if you are needing to build up vertical terrain I'd suggest the woodland scenics 1202. Mix thin enough so you can ball it up in your hand like putty then apply where needed.
I might try that.Never messed around much with woodlands scenics. I bought people from them. Never tried anything else. Maybe time to give them a try. Thanks
When I built my coffee table layout a couple decades back I used paper mache for the basic terrain then used the 1202 to model the rock formations on the vertical areas. Small sections at a time till satisfied with result then mixed up another small batch and moved on to the next section. Next time instead of paper mache I'll use the plaster cloth though as it's more ideal for "planting" trees. I used a hobby knife to gouge/scrape out the large crevices as well as scratch in the smaller striations then scrubbed everything with a stiff nylon brush. When set I applied white base coat then "earth" paint and before drying use a moist sponge to wipe away earth color from proud areas of rock formations. When dry came back in brushing very thinned gray water based paint over surface then dry wiping away with sponge.
Yes, i found using plaster cloth was much easier to work with making basic forms. I looked at the date on the mud and its out of date, So its most likely the reason it has turned liquid like. I am going to try new plaster and see if it is more like what i remember. I need to get some wire brushes as well. Gonna see if i can get it then. I used that stuff on the old layout i had. It worked really good for my needs. I posted two pictuers from my old layout. the mountains were made of drywall mud.
