These are some random shots from Sunday's visit to the Waukegan yard, plus two older shots. I walked down the unused tracks for a closer look at the old sanding tower. A close look at the throw from the same set of unused tracks. A good look at a bumper in the yard.
Nice! Their ground throws use the same principle as the ones I bought for my layout! Cool! Judging by the sanding tower's position, there was at least one more parallel track here.
Are you asking if the yard was once ran by the Milwaukee Road? I believe the yard was a C&NW yard as far back as the 1960's and UP is in control now.
Well. folks want prototypical, so here you go. I failed to post the sign which reads, 'no playing on tracks while trains in operation'.
Looks stupid. But it will be reflective like a stop or yield sign so if a crew is making a move at night they will be able to see it from a considerable distance and have plenty of warning so they don't hit the bumper at a high speed.
