Thanks. Actually I just set it out on my photo diorama for the time being. It and the storage tanks will eventually go on this module in the open space across the tracks to the right of the interlocker tower.
Russell, if you ever redo the loading dock, I shot this in Denver Iowa. I always imagined it was for loading barrels with a hand cart platform and a ramp. Here you can see it's proximity to the storage tanks. Jason
Thanks. I think I will add the folding ramp. It looks like that was there to drop down into the box car door opening. I like that better than the ones that they had to pick up and move like in the photo below. They were probably just for hand dollies and did not have to support a fork lift like the ones in the photo.
Heck! Good idea for some of my platforms. Nice detail. (That photo almost looks like somewhere around Sugar Land.)
I built this grain loading cover last night in about two hours. I already had it measured and drawn to scale. I was very careful to cut things on the square and that really made things fit well. Two loading chutes will be added to the top for two parallel loading tracks. BTW, for the first time, I used single edged razor blades to cut the styrene. Those things are really sharp! I didn't like not having a good handle or grip like you have with a hobby knife.
Check at the hardware store for a wall paper knife handle. It holds a razor with a wood or plastic handle.
Thanks. The tanks are made from Plastruct tubing that I scribed while turning on my lathe. I glued pieces of ABS plastic sheet on the ends and filed them down to the same contour as the tank. The concrete supports are Evergreen Styrene. The walkway, railings and piping are all styrene.
Still working on the yard repair. Here is the loading facility. As it is, there are two "pipes" or positions, one on each track. Should there be two loading positions on each track?
Finished at Last It is now all glued down on my NTRAK module where it goes. Will pack it all up and head off next week for Danville, Virginia for the NTRAK National Convention there. The module will probably never be finished. There is always something that I want to add or replace.
It's been a long time since I've touched my Burlington O-4 Mikado (except to run it, which I've done a LOT). Today I grabbed the weathering brushes and chalks and decided to give the Mikado a quick weathering job. All I did was touch the trucks with a rust color, go over it with a dark brown color, then gave the whole thing a soft dusting of light gray. I finished it off with some black chalk over the light areas and here is the result. The whole operation took less than 5 minutes.
Working on this N-Scale Kits 12-axle HD depressed center flatcar, measures a scale 104' + coupler length. I added some diamond tread plate to the end platforms along with some brakepiping to the brake details. I made some other modifications to the car to make it more like the KRL 300303 that it will represent, removed ribbing on the side and added the lower lip on the bottom edge. Just need to figure out the "Red n' Ready" decals and build a transformer load for it.
I have a broken Kato U30C that needs a truck frame and a pickup shoe...2 parts that Kato obsoleted...
Check the link at the top of this page for a link to ebay. There are some U30C's for sale there. Also some U30C parts, but I didn't see any trucks right now.
While I ran trains at the local HO Club, I set these two old Life Like FA's in 91% for two hours. I told my wife I was multi-tasking. Two SP&S units are now ready for their transformation into Soo Line FAs.
