finally finished my engine house for the future steam layout... I am waiting until there is track to cut the doors open and re-glue them
Bad news Ron, you're gonna have to build another one ....for that Tacoma trip... Beautiful, beyond words! Best, Otto K.
I haven't worked on anything in a while and just started back up this past 2 weeks slowly but surely. I have this ex-UP F9 #520, Rock Island #4102 complete with low profile fans and radiator tube needing a few more details and paint, Rock Island SW900 #778 needing paint, decals and handrails, and one of the 10 RI SD40-2's needing a chassis and decals.
Nothing too crazy but I started working on building a wooden trestle. Just started building the first couple bents.
I hope we'll see more updates on the F9 and trestle. I'm guessing coper wire for the radiator tube? That would be appropriate! And it's great to see the plans and notes for the trestle construction!
I love old wooden trestles! It's nice to see young guys scratch building them! Have fun with it and let us see progress please. Your post reminded me I need to build this one for the Pacific Electric line out of San Bernardino. I do not have plans, just the 1937 photo below. Anybody care to guess what the dimensions were, i.e. spacing of bents, height of "stories", size of lumber for posts? It was a relatively light structure, four posts per bent only, but the PE did run steam powered freights over it during and after WWII to supplement the parallel SP, UP and ATSF lines into Los Angeles. Thanks and kind regards, Otto K.
Here's what I've been doing. Scratchbuilt Silver Top Mine Head Frame, Tonopah, Nevada. Constructed from Evergreen shapes. Photo taken at my job where I have a lot of down time. Will post some updated photos this afternoon.
That looks very nice as well. It will be interesting and instructive to see future progress, especially in regards to how you paint it.
After a hiatus of several weeks following the Victoria Train Show, I returned to some modelling this week, aiming to continue clearing the backlog of long term projects nearing completion. Decals applied to Provincial Museum display flatcars CAYCUSE RIVER and CHEMAINUS RIVER: And to the three display coaches COWICHAN RIVER, KOOTENAY RIVER and SKEENA RIVER: These five cars now require paint touch-ups, weathering, final seal coat and re-assembly. They will then join the two recently completed boxcars: Tim
That looks really good !! We see that hoist and hoist house...at least 4 times a year when we go visit my son...who lives and works about 70 miles N.E of Tonopah
If you have dimensions for height and length of the car, it shouldn't be hard to get fairly close SWAG's out of it.
Just finished a few projects: CNW GP-18 I also just finished two 3D printed GP20 noses, one for an SP unit and one for for CBQ, I'll post pics when they come in from Shapeways
I have 3 locomotives on my workbench that havent been run in a while. I am trying to get Decoder Pro running again so I can check the deoders in them. Between Decoder Pro fighting with my PR 3...I'm about to pull my hair out !!! DC was so much simplier...lol. :headspin: BTW....post #5000...wowsa... I talk a lot...lol
