I realized I hadn't posted much over here lately... Some months ago, I started work on expanding my door layout with a second door, representing the Enola Yard at the east end of Pennsy's Middle Division (Conrail's Pittsburgh Line) and my semi-freelanced Juniata Division. The start: The viewblock with the old door layout: Some detail work:
The blue power lineup is indicative of my trend toward being less of a Pennsy modeler and more of a Conrail modeler. The view from US 11/15... This is my homemade billboard for the Summerdale Diner, a must-stop when railfanning the Harrisburg, PA area.
Thanks! The road is just a sheet of styrene from an old garage sale sign, spray painted with Testor's Dark Aircraft Gray. The striping was hand-painted (using painter's tape as a mask) and the weathering is done by dragging my finger through black pastel dust and dragging it down the senter of each lane. Dullcote completes the roadway.
I've tried this multiple times, and I always end up with paint bleeding under the tape - I've yet to get a nice crisp line like you have. Guess I need more practice!
Love the layout it looks fantastic. I think the roadway looks so realistic. Do you have an overall plan of the layout?
Colonel, Feel free to visit my website to get an idea of the plan for the main layout. The overview of the yard is:
Dave; From a fan of your work who spent some time working in and out of Enola, you have captured the feeling beautifully !...but how'd ya miss the PC ? Bob C.
Thanks, Bob! Oh, I haven't missed PC at all...! [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMsxsLrKpNw"]YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia] By the way, you may want to turn up the speakers.
Not sure how much it weighs... I'm bad at those sorts of estimates. I can say my wife and I can maneuver the yard up and down the stairs with ease. Were it not for the awkward length it could easily be a one-man lift. It weighs much less than the main layout because it's both a foot narrower and it doesn't have yards of plaster cloth over foam mountains.
I made the trip to Harrisburg via Rte 15 at least once a month back in the 90's. You've captured the area beautifully. Nice work!
After masking, paint a layer of your base coat first (in this case grey) before your top coat (yellow). Then any bleed will be the base coat, which should "seal" the tape to keep the top coat crisp. This works with spraying, don't see why it won't work with brush painting. Good luck! Phil
