Did more work on Enola... That's my 6-car Trailvan train there... Pardon the mess behind; I haven't yet built a portable backdrop for photos.
There was an old dismounted tank car in Enola: http://thecrhs.org/image/view/5369/_original I've started work on my version (an old damaged IM tank car): A diesel fueling rack is going where that concrete pad sites between the two pit tracks.
Dave you described how you built your great looking roads, a technique I am about to use myself. What are the width of that road you have there across the corner? Jamie
The road is two inches wide exactly. It matches the width of the roadway on the bridge over the yard. The roads in my town are 2 1/4 inches wide for parallel parking. I've seen several roads in N scale look two narrow, like two passing cars would clip their sideview mirrors. Originally I used actual roadway widths in N scale feet and rounded to the nearest inch or fraction of an inch.
Dave, of course as you already know This is looking fantastic! I love the engine shed- is that a Walthers kit? The Bachmann kit I picked up in a lot is a real wavy-plastic turd, and I can't seem to polish it!
Those are two Walthers car shops spliced together, shortened by a column of windows. It's a scratchbuilt roof. I also added inspection pits and modified the cornice detail.
Excellent work. You are an inspiration. :tb-wink: Were I plan to model it's mostly prairie with some low hills. There are bigger hills and glacier formations in the north and south. So I was thinking of going with a winter scene were you can't see more than a mile. But it would depress me in the Wisconsin winters. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Dave! I will be employing your technique very soon with a twist--literally. I have a road with a sharp s-curve that I need to build so I plan on making a poster board mockup that I can use as a template when I cut out the final road shape from the plastic "for sale" sign. Will be using your measurements as a guideline. Jamie
Dave, makes me want to go PENNSY... Naaah, maybe not, but your work is looking GOOD!!! Keep the pics coming, please! Regards, Otto Kroutil
Okay, guys, Enola update time. First off, I HAVEN'T set up a photo backdrop yet, so... That's that. Also, there are any number of people, telephone poles, diesel fuel racks, pump houses, sheds, sanding towers, etc. that have not yet been installed. What you see here is the roughed-in scenery. These are the power toggles to the pit and engine house sheds. This way I can store dead or DC locos with no problems. Looking down the classification tracks under the Overview Bridge.
The concrete pads surrounding the pit tracks will have the fueling/sanding racks. There are fuel tanks on the northeastern side of the diesel house just like the real Enola. I need to glue down the yard office.
