Here is the link to my beacon lights: http://www.shapeways.com/model/270591/n_scale_beacon_lights_20_pack.html?gid=ug Reading the Shapeways forums it looks like they are giving FUD one more week before they take it down for a bit. Hopefully they bring it back soon since my other half is going to let me blow some cash in August!
Has anyone ordered from this site before? I would LOVE to get some beacons as well as some of the MOW equiptment. However, I had a friend fo mine that got SEVERLY burned on a internet site transaction that was from overseas. So me, I am a little cautious now.
I have a few orders pending and I have personally gotten a few items from them in the past. Other than being swamped in orders and behind of the items being produced in FUD, I have been very happy with them in the past and have gotten a few Z scale airplanes from them quite recently. Thanks George!! It took me a bit of tinkering to make those and I had a few different takes on them that ended up being scrapped before I got them right. Jerry posted some pics and measurements that really helped me get it right!
I got an e-mail a few days back that said they were now producing my order for several different items in FUD so we will we in a week to what arrives. .
Awesome Jeff!! Let us know when you get the order please! I have only seen Z scale items in FUD and am really excited to see the N scale results!
Late word on their Forum - from Ana - is that they will make an announcement tomorrow and it will be good news of some sort....
FUD here to stay FUD is staying with slightly reduced per-cm^3 pricing, but a fairly steep $5 startup cost per item. I am still waiting for my first order to arrive and am pretty keen to see the results, and agree with others that this is going to take modelling to a whole new level. Already I'm pretty giddy with the possibilities! I think an easy way around the $5 startup cost will be to combine items into sprues, much as Sierra has done with his beacons, then your $5 is spread over a larger number of items. Imagine a Southern Pacific detail sprue with all the different lighting packages and other details; or a track maintenance sprue with a tie crane, trolley, portaloo and pickup truck all in one. Also makes it easier to make up the $25 min order amount. Full announcement here: Shapeways | blog: And the Fate of the Frosted Detail/Ultra Detail is...
It's not in all cases, necessary to use sprues - it's possible to have multiple separate parts in a file with most programs and Shapeways will accept this, though if the parts are small it is advisable to keep them joined, just so the don't get lost !
This just keeps getting better. I would live to see a Comet II kit come out at some point. Anyone planning derailed passenger vehicles? I know Bryan over at ESM was working on a few new buses for the transition era.
I'm waiting to see how this whole FUD thing plays out and then I will decide if I will continue modeling in it or not. I will most likely be altering some of my designs to accommodate the new fees or just using different materials all together.
Also, I have a few things in the works for those who are interested in military vehicles or aircraft... (There is a 747 on my screen right now)
I have been wanting to do a bnsf Boeing aircraft train and no one makes 737 fuselages in 1/160 scale.
Used to see a Boeing train come through town a number of years ago. Usually 1 body, in 2 sections and associated parts. Might be interested in a body or two! Mountain side plane crash perhaps??
