I'm with Tim. My original MRC 2-8-4. Still runs. I had a MRC 2-8-8-2 and it was on the pool table in a display case I was working on. My wife put my one year old son on the pool table while she talked on the phone. He made short work of the mallet. I forgave the boy but traded wives.
Well, like Hemi, I'm surprised I didn't hit this one before. I'd have to go with my BN SD70MAC's, with my BN SD40-2's coming in a VERY close second. Those C30-7's look SWEET, btw. I sure hope Kato does a new DCC-ready run of those eventually.
Pete: I have one with PRR markings. It's still new in the box. I was thinking of putting a Lok-Sound decoder in it. Stay cool and run steam...
It was quite a surprise to see this thread re-appear! And that I started it in April 2000 Lots of old names in the early posts! I cannot mention my current favourite, as I no longer model n scale (My current favourite is in my signature).
AGREED! my fav right now has to be my Kato GN ABA set. I've always planned to take one of my loco's and fix all the necessary details... ..to dream.. -NUTEY-
Santa Fe Bi-Centennial SD45-2 5700, is my favorite diesel model. Of course, the F45 is right up there too, but 5700 is just beautiful to me.
It is hard to just pick one however my first choice would be my set of the Beverly Helpers. Milw SD40-2 136 and 157. While the picture below is a little outdated these units now have the proper size fuel tanks and detail weathering according to the photos I have of these units in the late 70's. My second choice would be my model of BN's SD40-2, 7890 and 7149 RLM units. I have the fuel tender for these units as well. I'm not a real big BN fan anymore but I love the paint job on these locos. So I guess my favorite loco is the -2!
Hey, BugNerd, welcome to N scale. The Spectrum 4-8-4 is a great first purchase, congratulations! My all time favorite (and which is on my roster) is the Pennsy T1. Mine is a Key product, and while you may envy me that I can afford brass, now that I've purchased this one, I can't afford brass anymore! My favorite loco that is NOT on my roster would be the Alco C636--either PRR or CR.
A toss between: Either my Overland Rio Grande GP60's, weathered and run! Or my Overland Cotton Belt SD45T-2 Bicentennial unit(#28 of 75!)
When I first got started in MRR a little over a year ago, My favorite was the Berkshire, but now things changed since I got into it a little more. I will always like the C44-9W - it's just awesome. But currently I'm hooked on the Geeps! I'm looking right now for any GP with a low hood.
Tough Choice! If I would need to choose one I would go with my NP Z6 Challenger... It is beautiful and runs very good. I have not figured out a DCC conversion yet... Cheers Dirk
Dirk: I have the old Rivarossi Challengers. How would you isolate the motor in those monsters for a decoder? I can't figure that out as well. Stay cool and run steam....
I guess if I had to choose based on which ones get the most run time it would have to be these guys. I renumbered them and shaved the dynamic grids off the roof to turn them into T&NO engines to pull my Sunset Limited trainset.
