I took the day off of work today to see 4014 come into Cheyenne. I had planned on going up toward Laramie and catch her at Dale Junction, but chickened out when the weather showed snow up that way. Instead I went to Cheyenne and waited just west of the Borie cutoff.
A peice of my child hood is now in Cheyenne lol. I use to visit 4014 every year of the fair. Cant wait to see it steamd up! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Thanks for sharing your photo's here. Mighty fine shooting. Just a reference to another discussion on going, here on TB: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine...ificant-RailFan-Movements&p=980501#post980501
Was initially planning on making the run up to Borie and wait. But, because the weather was gonna be nasty at best, I chose the best thing to do - Stay home!! Was NOT gonna battle the weather, much less the People/Traffic. Besides, I figure I did not miss much.
Here's a local news clip from Channel 5 News, Cheyenne, Wyoming: http://www.kgwn.tv/home/headlines/Big-Boy-4014-comes-to-Cheyenne-258554061.html
Me again. I found this resource on the UP website along with other's. Thought you might appreciate this.
Nice crowd there. I wonder how many of those we have seen watching this event are simply curious? And how many are truly interested?
Salt Lake City, UT Guessing but I would say 20-80%. 20% serious railfans and 80% being they were dragged along, ditched work and/or teachers used this for an excuse to go on a field trip (lucky kids). Here's another video I found of the Hospital Train and #4014 on display in Salt Lake City, UT. What they couldn't do this down by the station? Take a look at the trip hazards in the pictures and you guessed why the yellow tape. Huunuh?
I am surprised people were wandering around so freely. Even dumbbells putting their kids up on cars, etc. Not intelligent. Oh well. We know why there are plenty of lawyers, and why we can't do so many things any more these days.
Central Utah I do like this video and the way this gentleman added commentary. I think you will enjoy it as well. If not.....oh well!
Southern California Coverage This is the soul reason the railroads get so up tight and anal with the public. However, she uhhh....errr....how can we call the locomotive a she when it's called the Big Boy? The Big Boy was on static display on a siding and clearly available to the public. Consider, touching trains, getting their children's picture taken sitting or standing next to a train........... are all things we like to do. Here's a treat. To all of those fine railfans that are suffering from Big Boy withdrawal and steamitis here is a website for you. :teeth: http://www.trainmaster.ch/XC-53.htm Plenty of videos done by those I consider to be friends. Some fine video and digital coverage of the Big Boy leaving Southern California.
Russell, are those your grand kids? There's a story about me that comes out of Barstow's Santa Fe Yards. Me, a railroad yard, steam engine and I examined the under side of it. Looked darn good to me. I mean how else can you examine a steam engine. True! I said not laughing as there were/was some serious consequences and I wouldn't recommend it.
Rick, thanks for gathering up all that info on the 4014 move. It's good to see some railfanning here. Just caught a photo on another site of the SP&S 700 and Nickel Plate PA 190 arriving at Portland Union Station last night. I am going to contact the owner to see if I can post it here. Train Day today in Portland.
That last one has some nice footage. I do wish people would learn to stand away from their movie camera, when shooting stills. The clattering of shutters is very distracting.
Ogden, Utah Home at last. Glad to do this, besides I get my Big Boy FIX for the day. COL One more video by Chris B. Listen in to learn of what importance Ogden, Utah played for the Big Boys. Enjoy! .
