4 of the wipers are for the stepper motor, and 2 for the rails contacts. If they had cut the traces for the bridge track wipers and cross wired them at 180 degrees, auto polarity could have worked. All the moving parts are on one side of the underside of the bridge, opposite the operators cabin.
