John, I LOVE this kitbash--do you have a link to the buildup topic?
I need to find one of these, bash it, and give it DNW&P or D&SL numbers...

      Hemi,

I never really did a real article on this as I had started working on it and had too much of it done before taking any pictures. I did post a few photos under "D&RGW 2-6-6-0" and made the comments below:

"OK, I think I'll stop at this point and maybe come back to this loco to add a little more to it later. The two main photos I used were of #3366 and #3368 so I decided to number this one 3367. The bottom of the tender is from a Kato caboose for the pick up, the tender shell from an old Bachmann 2-8-0. The M-A shell for the loco had to be changed quit a bit and the lead truck added."

The photos don't show up in that topic anymore because of the transfer to the new RI.

I expected heavy rework to the loco and tender--but it would all be worth it to have a distinctive Moffat Road engine. The Moffat Service smoke lifter is cool--how did you build it?

      Hemi-

I'm betting that if you do one of these, especially in D&SL, more will follow. Then the layout will be backdated, and...

      Hemi,

I cut two thin slices from some plastic tubing that was the right diameter to make two "donuts" Glue these together at a right angle to each olther so it looks like a "L". Then with thin strips of paper cover the area from the top of the "L" to the bottom on the right side, following the shape of the circles. Using super glue and the setting agent makes this very hard. Then sand away the excess that don't look right and paint.

You're right, Ken. You need at least 5 of these for a typical Hill line train over Rollins Pass!
As for backdating? Nah, the Tunnel District is so timeless that a shot in 2005 looks no different than one taken in 1905, after the line was built. Save for some concrete tunnel portals added in the 40's, and taller trees, you'd be hard-pressed to note the difference!

Where do you get the Micro-Ace locos?
    • J WIDMAR
I have used Hobbyworld and Hobby Search from Japan but the Micro-Ace steam is hard to find right now. They have not produced many new items and when they do have a run it seems to be in limited productions.

I know the HOn30 guys have grabbed a fair number of these chassis.
