Harpers Ferry, WV

This is a view of the two railroad bridges and the tunnel at Harpers Ferry, WV. Actually the tunnel is in Maryland but it is referred to as the "Harpers Ferry tunnel". The bridge on the left is the mainline connecting Cumberland to the west to Washington to the east. The bridge on the right is the old mainline bridge but now is the start of the Shenandoah branch line. If you look closely you can see the abandoned tracks curving to the right off the bridge with the train on it. Those were the part of the old mainline before it was straightened. Photo was taken in 1985.
