nice pics, just one question someone can answer for me,with a train waiting like this, who alters the turnouts ie.done manually by engineers or remotely by someone sitting in front of a computer?Ta stu.
That particular turnout is controlled via Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) - once the UP train cleared, the dispatcher remotely aligned the switch for the westbound P&L train.
Hi,just one more question from a novice as far as some of these things work,CTC,are they near there or could they be miles away? Thanks for your time,Stu.
Not a problem Stu... they can be hundreds of miles away. In this particular case however, the P&L Dispatcher is located in Paducah - about 25 miles west of this location. The dispatcher controls the entire 280+ mile route however.
sweet, cheers for that. Its always interesting finding outhow they do it all.thought about how the railroads operate alot, but until I jioned Trainboard never knew anyone to ask. Thanks alot stu.
