Am still exploring all the possibilities with the foam. Tried out my new small hot knife on the last section I scenicked, it was right useful. I suppose I will use it again here, and try a longer blade for deeper cuts. Fun!
Replaced the west end main yard switch with a new #8. Works much better! And put in this #8 for the west end of the passenger siding. Started on the yard lead using #6's. Also got one more built today, while visiting with one of my sons. East end of the passenger siding. Did some tweaking on the crossovers and test ran trains through it both up hill and down. It works! Now I just have to get the frogs wired.
I bought a #6 jig from Fast Tracks, with the tools to file frogs and points and the stock rail. After building 8 with the jig, I decided to try a #8 with just a template on a glass plate, which also worked out. For the initial cost, the learning curve and skills gained were worth every penny. Now I feel confident I can build ant switch I can get a template for. Their website is handlaidtrack.com.
About 120. Gets you tools, jig and an instructional video and access to pdf files, etc. And supplies to build 6 switches.
Thank you for the price of jig, tools and materials. $120 is cheap compared to other prices I've seen!!! Peco code 80 turnouts cost $20--$25 apiece, so the kit would pay for itself with the materials, you still get the tools for free. Joe
Got this second switch built and the passenger depot siding laid in. Am trying another method of joining rails. Just tinned both rails and soldered this bit of wire to the outside web, it seems to be working so far. Have done this a few other places. And two freights are pulling into the yard now that the section gang has cleared away.
Thought I would try a couple of low light videos. The first one came out near! I really like how the shadows on the bank flow! This one did not come out as well, the camera kept hunting for focus. I will have to try something different with that.
Thanks! Love the firebox! There is also a light on in the brakemans shack, but it went unseen in that video. The K4s hasn't been fussed with, yet! When I do jump into it, well . . . we will see!
If you video camera has manual focus, set it to that and focus at the front of the tunnel. (Or where ever you want.)
It does have that option, I just have to play with buttons and figure it out. Being as I don't do too much online, I had the manual printed out, so I need to read that before I start pushing buttons.
Wed was my off day this week, so I got some time in laying yard tracks. Here we have things holding track down while the glue dries. A closeup of a joint between code 55 and 40. One note, the Bman K4s rattles along the code 40 hitting every spikehead! And an overview.
Good thing to know, even newer locomotives are susceptible to code 40 spike riding. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
